Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
In this game, the player may choose to create a gymnast and train/condition him/her in gymnastics. The levels would start from basic tumbling skills and progress into the Elite levels where there are World Championships and Olympic Competitions to attend. The player would begin by selecting a gymnast (body and face) and naming him/her. If a player selects a male gymnast, that gymnast will train on all 6 events, Pommel Horse, High Bar, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Floor. The gymnast would start as a basic beginner gymnast and by training different skills on different events, would be able to progress into the competitive levels. Once in competitive levels, a combination of training and luck would allow a gymnast to do well enough in a competition to progress to the next level. All progressions would take place according to the standards USA Gymnastics has set up for Gymnastics. Once the gymnast has reached the “optional” level, the player may chose to make the routine for the gymnast (with computer animations of the gymnast doing the skills) or may have the computer generate basic routines. Once the player is more comfortable with creating routines for gymnasts, they may create “new” or “different” routines for the gymnast. If the player so desires, they may go to an online site and join in competitions with their gymnasts competing against other gymnasts from the same game. If not, they are able to compete against computer generated gymnasts. As the gymnast progresses more and more training is required and the risk of injury grows. They key points in the game are stretching, conditioning, training, maintaining a healthy diet/lifestyle, and routine composition. Once the gymnast progresses to the Elite level, he is able to try out for the World and Olympic games, where much more rigorous training is necessary, and there are much bigger stakes. The goal of the game is to get a gold medal in the Olympics.
For players who choose a female gymnast, the game will work similarly, the female training on the four events, vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and floor. The gymnast would start with basic skills and progress into the compulsory levels of competition. Once in a competitive area of the game, the player, much like for the men’s levels, will progress through the levels by training and competing. The goal once again is to get a gold medal in the Olympics. The game could also cater to the interests of College Gymnasts. This sport centers much more around a team environment and would be reflected in the game, where instead of choosing a gymnast, the player would choose a team, such as the UCLA Bruins. The game would include current rosters and could be updated each year to show the changing roster and abilities of the team. At the College Level, the focus would be not only the training and competition, but also include grades and team unity. The grades would be integrated into the game by the player having the gymnasts study books, this would limit the practice time available for the gymnast, but insure that said gymnast wouldn’t lose a spot on the team. Having the team go to group activities, and interact would satisfy the focus on the team unity area. When it is time to compete, meets will be pre-selected with other teams such as the Cal Bears, and the meet and results would be partially based on the team statistics for the past years results.
