Melancholament

STORY:

You begin the adventure unconscious in a grove of Ash trees far from home. You are picked up by a beautiful young woman who cares for you and heals your wounds. When you awake, you don’t remember who you are or where you came from. While trying to solve the mystery, a band of evil horsemen burn the village and run out its inhabitance. This is where your story begins, in the land of Melancholament. You learn of the troubles of this broken and sad world. The good and noble king that once ruled has been assassinated by his right hand man who now maintains power through terrorism. Your mission is to find and defeat the evil ruler and restore the land to its once beautiful state.

GAMEPLAY:

The game is primarily an RPG. But elements of Fighting, Puzzle, and Kings Quest like Adventure are also present. The graphics are "stolen" from all the old 16bit adventure and RPGs (ex: Zelda & Final Fantasy), with additions of new graphics, worlds, menus, and start screens. You travel through the world upgrading your character, buying/finding new items, and building up your team. Follow the story through amazing worlds and lands until you finish the main story. Then you can play for forever after that by buying a house and furnishing it. Or you could buy a ship and sail the open seas. How about opening up a shop? Or buying an Air Ship? The possibilities are endless as you just, "live life."

ONLINE GAMEPLAY:

Players would be able to continue their quest by taking their character online. There they could explore new worlds with other online gamers like themselves. While they explore they could start a new adventure in search of Rare and Exclusive items. They could also participate in tournaments with other players. Type1 tournament would be an RPG type battle with classic RPG menus and turn based fighting. Type 2 would be a fighting game like street fighter where the player’s items could be controlled first hand by the player.

Another addition to the online version would be a "player involved government." Players could run for Village, Town, City, Region, Province, Area, and finally Kingdom ruler. They could also join their home kingdom’s military and gain rank there as they fight other kingdoms to gain land and maintain control of the land. Online gaming opens up infinite possibilities to players.

SUMMARY:

This game would be a telescope back in time to the old 16bit games we used to, and still do love. It would have no replay value since the game never ends. And with tens of thousands of items and hundreds of worlds it would never get boring. It would clearly be a fun game that hundreds of players would love to see made (especially me).

I think the plot for your game is a pretty good one. I really like the idea that the world of Melancholament is a sad and dreary one. But besides how the game begins, you really dont have much else besides beat the bad guy. And the whole non-ending game thing is something i've had ideas about, but that would take a long time to work on. With the thousands of items and many worlds and all of those online capabilities, well, thats a lot of work! Im not sure how far you are planning this game, whether youre just doing it for fun, or whether you want to see this game go far. It definitely has "go far" potential, but that would take a lot of work. Not that im a programmer or anything, it just seems that way. But it think with work it would be a nice plot and game. Maybe you could update it and let the rest of us see any additional plot.
