Special Notes: This is a sequel to a GAME IDEA, not an actual game. I apologize for the length once again, and remind you that this game is aimed at mature audiences. This game idea is once again presented in a walkthrough-style. (I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THANKS TO DEVIL MAY CRY FOR INSPIRING A GOOD PORTION OF THIS SEQUEL) Storyline Joshua walks into his room, trying to get the annoying ringing sound out of his ears. He looks at his big Husky dog, Amigo, and shakes his head. It was just a dream. Joshua says to himself. Just a crazy dream... Then, a searing pain shoots through his head. He starts to hear a familiar voice... "Joshua!" The voice shouts. No, no I must be hearing things. Joshua says to himself as he clutches his throbbing head. Just a dream Just a dream Just a dream Just a dream "Joshua...it's loose...it...out of dream...real now...look out for...don't go out...if it finds you..." The pain stops and the voice cuts off. Joshua shakes his head even harder. I didn't hear that, it was just a dream. There's no such thing as zombies and spirits and whatever. He gets in his bed, and starts closing his eyes to sleep. He forces them back open. He tries to pretend he doesn't know why he won't go to sleep, but inside he knows; your going to fall asleep and be trapped again. You won't escape; they're going to get you this time. No, it WAS A DREAM! It didn't really happen! This is all in my head! Just then, Amigo starts to whimper. He lowers his head to the floor as if something is hurting him. Joshua looks out the window, where Amigo is watching. He feels like he is going to die of sheer terror. Standing on top of his neighbor's roof is a creature he hoped never to see again. It wears a long black flowing cloak around itself, and it is this very cloak that makes eerie hissing and swooping sounds as it watches us from above, the sounds we only hear in out nightmares. In our nightmares. On its face, it wears a white porcelain mask, and Joshua hopes that he never has to find out what lies behind that mask. From its long black cloak emerge two gnarled long claw-like hands. These hideous and scarred hands hold a noose and a dream-catcher, which the thing swings back and forth. The Surreal stares at Joshua through the eyes of its strange porcelain mask, swinging the dream-catcher back and forth. Please don't come closer. As if reading Joshua's mind, the creature drifts from the roof and gradually floats closer and closer to Joshua's window...closer...closer... I'm not seeing this. Joshua rubs his eyes. As soon as he takes them away, the thing his gone. Joshua almost sighs his lungs out. It wasn't real; I was seeing things. Joshua slowly falls asleep with a feeling of growing terror in his heart...
Two years ago, a young boy named Joshua Remirez was violently assaulted. He was left in a coma, lasting for about two and a half months. While in the coma, Joshua was transported to a dark part of his mind where evil reigns and nightmares are blurred with reality. Joshua barely escaped with his life, bringing with him a large dog named Amigo. His friend "Spirit" was nowhere to be found. Joshua disregarded the whole thing as a crazy dream. Until now. Joshua is thirteen years old, and is beginning to worry his seventh grade teachers. They notice that Joshua greatly physically outperforms the other students, and is capable of great athletic feats, such as jumping high into the air and performing a series of wild flips. This is no doubt the result of the training that Joshua had in his coma. One fateful day, Joshua's mother is murdered. Her murder was a mystery, but Joshua noticed a single symbol of an eye scratched into her forehead. This is the great eye of Omega, the emperor of the nightmare world. Joshua swears that no matter what it takes, he will get revenge on Omega for his mother's death. At the murder scene, Joshua noticed a girl in a hood, watching him closely. When Joshua turned her way, she ran off. At school the next day, Joshua sees the same girl watching him from the bleachers. He chases after her, but she runs off far too quickly. This goes on for a few days, but then the girl drops a note behind on purpose. The note states IF YOU WANT ANSWERS, COME BY THE CABIN IN THE SOUTH FOREST AT MIDNIGHT. Joshua heeds the letter's words, and heads into the forest to see what the girl wants... GAMEPLAY (Gameplay is very similar to the first game.) Weapons Joshua's arsenal from the first game is back and it's better than ever! Spirit Stick: The spirit stick is a spear-like weapon that can also be used as a whip. It has a magic arrowhead equipped to the tip, which is also attached to the long, whip-like cord. Joshua starts out with the old three-hit combo, but in this game it has been extended to a five-hit combo if the circle button is rapidly pressed. Joshua also starts out with the spear-ram, spinbash, and runaround techniques from the old game. Old and new techniques can be purchased in this game at the good old SPOOK SHOPS, (I'll cover those later.) which can be found during and between missions. Joshua begins the game with the spirit stick. The Ally Sword: When playing as the new character Cheryl, she starts out with a Rusty Blade. Cheryl's adrenaline mode (I'll cover that later also.) allows her to transform her Rusty Blade into a powerful and huge sword, the Ally. Spirit Sword: During the game, Joshua's spirit stick transforms into a larger sword, which is more powerful and can mimic certain attacks used with the spirit stick. You can purchase these attacks at SPOOK SHOPS. The Legendary Sword of Vega: This gigantic sword is found later in the game when Joshua finishes an intense fight. Vega consits of a long hilt attached to an enormous skull of an ancient dragon. From the dragon's mouth projects a long steel blade that can easily retract and contort, taking spear, pendulum, and scythe forms. Although the sword is white and was wielded to aid the forces of righteousness, it is the result of a deep hatred, and glows black when in adrenaline mode. This enormous weapon is automatically obtained at the beginning of Mission 14. Cleaver: The oversized meat cleaver is back, and its controls are basically the same as the first game. You can use it against some of the game's early enemies, but don't stick around with it for too long. It can still be attached to the end of your spirit stick. This sword is found in the toy stockade of Mission 3. Pistol: Joshua starts out with this laser-guided pistol, which becomes very useful later on. First person view can still be used with all firearms, and YES, all firearms still carry unlimited ammunition. The pistol carries ten shots, then must be reloaded, taking five seconds where Joshua must remain motionless, just like in the first game! Joshua begins the game with the pistol. Musket: The Musket is the second game's version of the Rifle from the first game. Sniper capability can be enabled, but it now has five shots before the seven second reload, instead of just three! The Musket is located in the King's throne after the boss battle of Mission 2. Grenadegun: Yet another weapon from game 1! The grenadegun now fires five grenades before a ten-second reload. The grenadegun is located inside the coliseum after the boss battle of Mission 10. Shotgun: The sawed off boom stick is back, and still fires five buck shots before a three second reload. These shots do extremely little damage at long range, but extremely high damage at close range. The shotgun is located on the mountain trail of Mission 9. Alpha and Beta: Alpha and Beta are twin pistols that fire extremely rapidly. They take the place of the regular pistol that Joshua obtained in the last game. Alpha is a black pistol that fires gold bullets, while Beta is a white pistol that fires silver bullets. These pistols have fifty shots each, before Joshua must stop for a ten second reload. (Don't go ooh and aah yet; the bullets are about as strong as marshmellows. However, you may find to favor these guns over the rest since when added up the damage is decent and they are so easy to fire when moving quickly.) When fired from the air, these weapons have so much force that they will levitate Joshua for a few seconds! In addition, they will levitate any enemies that have already been flung into the air! The twin pistols are found in the library of Mission 3. Gamma: Gamma is the third edition to the Alpha, Beta, Gamma pistol family. Gamma is a golden pistol, firing fifty shots before a five second reload. Gamma is laser guided and does more damage than Alpha and Beta. Gamma is found at the end of Mission 12. Flame stone: When the flamestone is equipped to Joshua, all attacks in Adrenaline mode will be enhanced by the searing power of fire. All bullets fired in adrenaline mode will also burst into flame when striking the enemy. The flamestone is found in the torture chambers of Mission 4. Joltstone: The sizzling electric stone is back, which will enhance all attacks with electricity! The Joltstone is located in Mission 6, after the boss battle. Aquastone: The aquastone adds the power of raging water to your attacks when equipped. It also enhances the ability to move around underwater, and allows firearms to be fired underwater. The aquastone is obtained after the boss battle in Mission 11. Frost stone: The Frost stone adds the sting of ice to your attacks, which is helpful against fire type beasts. The Frost stone is obtained after the boss battle in Mission 9. Holy Stone: The holy stone allows Joshua to enter a special type of Adrenaline mode when equipped. Joshua will move and attack very fast, glowing bright with white energy. Also, Joshua's vitality bar will increase slowly while in this state of Adrenaline. The Holy stone is automatically obtained after completing the game once under the NORMAL difficulty. Adrenaline Mode: You may notice a second bar under Joshua's vitality bar. When this meter is filled completely, a chime will sound and Joshua will enter Adrenaline Mode! Glowing with bright green energy, Joshua will move faster, jump higher, and attack more powerfully in this mode. When the Adrenaline bar is empty, Joshua will be returned to his normal state. Adrenaline mode starts out lasting about ten seconds, and can be extended to last about one minute. Since he pushes himself to extreme limits, Joshua's health will be slowly drained in Adrenaline mode. If you do not wish to enter Adrenaline mode, press L1 when you hear the chime. Amigo The Husky: Amigo, like in the last game, can be sent after enemies and items, proving very useful. He is Joshua's faithful companion. Amigo's controls remain unchanged. To lead Amigo around on his leash, press the R2 button, and Joshua will whistle, calling Amigo. You can run or walk with Amigo, but you can only control him while walking. To control Amigo, hold L1, and press the Left Analog stick towards the direction you want him to walk. Press the Left Analog stick quickly to make Amigo dodge. Press the circle button rapidly to make Amigo perform a series of bites and scratches. Press the square button to shoot a firearm with your free hand. Press L3 to make Amigo sniff around for hidden items, and R3 to toggle firearms. Press L2 to send Amigo free to roam, freeing up Joshua's hands of the leash. Amigo will follow Joshua, automatically attacking enemies when they appear. Sometimes Amigo will disobey controls, attacking and sniffing out items on his own. Don't try to be funny and attack Amigo, it doesn't work. Enemies Ah, yes, the mavens of mayhem that infest this sequel are both newcomers to the series, alongside some returning, vengeful foes... The Health meters for enemies are presented after their names. Health meters are in the red area for 20% and under, yellow for 21-99%, and green for 100% and over. 1. Gargoyles, 20% Health: Appearance: Gargoyles are stone statues the magically come to life when in the dark. Fighting Tactics: Gargoyles will crawl on the ground, slashing at Joshua. They sometimes fly high into the air, and swoop at him from above. If you can, try and lure them into a lighted area, where they will be transformed back into stone, allowing you to bash away at them! If a gargoyle flies high into the air and you manage to turn it to stone, it will fall and shatter into a thousand pieces! They are weak to electricity. 2. Bloody Dolls, 30-50%: Appearance: Bloody Dolls are life-size toys that have been possessed by the forces of evil Fighting Tactics: These oversized dolls move very slow, and their attacks can be easily dodged with practice with Joshua's quick reflexes. They attack with pieces of glass that they hold in each hand. They are weak to fire attacks, as they are made of wood. 3.Bloody Mary, 70%: Appearance: Bloody Mary are giant dolls possessed by the forces of evil. They are much taller and stronger than their Bloody Doll siblings, and carry knives and daggers instead of glass. Fighting Tactics: Bloody Mary dolls may appear to move slowly like the Bloody Dolls, but don't be fooled. When Joshua is targeted, they will speed up and hack away at him with the knives they carry. They may also throw their knives from a distance. Their close-range attacks are far harder to dodge than Bloody Dolls. They will block and return attacks much more than Bloody Dolls. Fire attacks seem useless against them, they merely absorb it and spit it back out. Use powerful whip attacks with the spirit stick in adrenaline mode to take them out. 4. Misery, 10%: Appearance: Misery are disgusting, hideous babies once cared for by the deranged queen Bloody Mary. Fighting Tactics: These little freaks will crawl slowly toward you, holding butcher knives in each hand. They will try to leap on you and hack you to pieces, and they are very hard to hit with swords or the spirit stick. The best weapons to use against these tots from hell are probably Alpha and Beta, and maybe the shotgun. 5. Larva, 20%: Appearance: Larva are transparent white baby spiders that are as big as small cars. Fighting Tactics: Larva are easily killed with fire attacks, but swarm in large numbers to make up for their weak defense. Larva spiders often try to jump on Joshua and bite him from behind, but may also shoot a web-like substance from their mouths, making it difficult to move. Little does Joshua know that the Larva spiders have a big, angry mom... 6. Wretched Souls (Wretched for short) 40%: Appearance: With stringy white hair and bloodshot eyes, Wretched are undead creatures that haunt the dream realm. Fighting Tactics: The terrifying Wretched zombies from the first game have returned! Now they have slightly tougher life bars at 40%, and still attack in hordes, biting and scratching at Joshua. They may also emit the classic screech that paralyzes Joshua for ten seconds. 7. Blaze, 50%: Appearance: Resembling foxes consumed entirely in flame, Blazes are suicidal creatures that often self-destruct. Fighting Tactics: Remember the deadly Blaze enemies from the first game? Well they've returned to wreak havoc (and fire) once again. Blazes bounce off the walls, setting anything they touch on fire for a few minutes. These fires can be put out with the Frost or Aquastone. Blazes also self-destruct if their health runs red, blowing up everything and everyone in the area, including fellow enemies and Joshua! Blazes show extreme weakness to water based attacks, but not much else. 8. Reapers, 100%: Appearance: The Reapers have returned to seek revenge on Joshua, but now carry more than scythes. Reapers will sometimes carry pendulums, giant scissors, and even giant hammers as they venture through the game! Fighting tactics: Scythe Reapers: Knock the Reaper's six scythes away quickly, and bash at its cow skull until it dies. Attacking the long misty cloak of any reaper will only make it angrier! Pendulum Reapers: Dodge the giant Pendulum that this reaper swings by rolling close to the monster. Far away attacks will only be easy targets for the massive blade. When up close, the Reaper will retract its blade to attack from close-range. Bash away at its health meter, and try to kill it before it does. Scissor Reapers: These reapers will swing around enormous scissors, which can be easily knocked away. These are the least powerful Reapers, but when their health falls into the red area, they will rip their scissors in half, wielding them as two swords! Hammer Reapers: These creatures carry bizarre giant hammers as weapons, which they swing slowly, smashing Joshua into the ground. They might also use the claw side of the hammer to attack. 9. Blak Kats, 120%: Appearance: The Blak Kats have also returned from the previous game, resembling tigers made up of a shadowy material. Fighting Tactics: Blak Kats will run at great speeds and usually attack in pairs, so send Amigo after one of them and take on the other with your weapons. They will shoot sharp spear like projectiles that are very hard to dodge. 10. Roc Soldiers, 80%: Appearance: Roc Soldiers are armored bird-men who wield lances and serve the mighty Roc. Fighting Tactics: Roc Soldiers' health meters will not decrease unless you have broken off a good portion of the armor that they wear. The Soldiers often spread their huge black wings and attack Joshua from the air, so jump up and blast them to the ground with your shotgun when they do. The lance weapons that the Soldiers carry are very hard to dodge and block. These enemies are very tough. 11. Prisoners, 60%: Appearance: No, Prisoners aren't escaped convicts in the jail cell uniforms. Prisoners are skeletons that were left to die in the torture chambers of the castle long ago. They swing around balls on chains, attached to their legs and arms. Fighting Tactics: Since the Prisoners are attached to such weapons, they move very slowly. They may catch you off guard and attack you from long range with these weapons, though. Use the joltstone, and you should take them out with no problems. 12. Poltergeists, 5%: Appearance: Cackling, flying white blobs, poltergeists have the ability to posses many inanimate objects. Fighting Tactics: Poltergeists can posses inanimate objects, multiplying their health meters greatly. When an object's health falls into the red area, the poltergeist will emerge, and Joshua may finish the helpless blob off. 13. Bog Imps, 40%: Appearance: The Bog Imps are frightening black creatures with tiny wings. They have large sharp claws on their hands and razor sharp teeth. Think of them as butcher knives with wings. Fighting Tactics: Bog Imps may buzz around Joshua quickly, making them difficult targets. Dodge their frantic swoops and use the joltstone to bring these creepy pests down. 14. Death Imps, 60%: Appearance: Bearing no wings, the Death Imps are larger cousins of the bog imps, stalking the silent corridors of the underground castle. Fighting Tactics: Death Imps do a lot more damage than Bog Imps, so dodge their powerful ground based attacks, and try to get behind them to perform a spear-ram technique into their backs. 15. Pyro Babies, 100%: Appearance: Pyro babies appear to be smaller versions of the Pyro Dragon encountered in the first game. Fighting Tactics: Pyro Babies are wreathed in flame, so avoid touching one. They will spew fire from their mouths from the air, and will charge at Joshua from the ground. The Frost stone actually seems to be more effective against them than the Aquastone. 16. Mountain Wolves, 80%: Appearance: Dazzling white wolves, the Mountain Wolves wait for Joshua in the freezing peeks of the castle mountains. Fighting Tactics: These monsters move very much like the Blaze enemies, only they are composed of ice, and do not self-destruct. Take them out in the same way you would a Blaze, but with the Flamestone equipped. Make sure to have Amigo help you with these fights. 17. Hangmen, 75%: Appearance: Rotting, soulless corpses that hang from nooses, dropping down on their prey from above, the Hangmen creatures from Joshua's nightmare have returned. Fighting Tactics: Hangmen often drop from above unexpectedly. Give them a few whacks before they gather themselves up, because its quite a battle when they do. Although they are shorter than Wretcheds, they do not move any faster. However, they wear clothes, bulletproof vests, and are tougher. They attack by swinging a large noose at Joshua, and by trying to trip and strangle him with it. These attacks can be easily dodged with practice. Hangmen are strangely invulnerable to gunfire towards the head. If you try aiming and shoot them in the head in first-person view, their heads will only creak back and forth. Boss Creatures The bosses encountered throughout the game are as follows.
Tanton: The Tanton monster is an enormous caged giant, with one large eye in the middle of its head. It has spikes projecting from the cage around it, and projecting from the four iron balls it uses to attack with. It is a weaker boss, but still a loyal servant to the Omega.
The Surreal: The cloaked, masked, and mysterious figure has returned. No one knows why, but it wants to get its hands on Joshua! The Surreal posses one of the suits of armor lining the castle walls, transforming itself into a great black knight.
Mother Recluse: The Mother Recluse spider is an enormous tarantula, with three green neon scorpion stingers. Its belly is also glowing neon green. The Recluse guards the spider hive, and later on in the game takes a fiery magma form.
The Roc: The Roc is an enormous bird, with tusks projecting from its face and a devil-like tail. The Roc commands the Roc Soldiers, and is one of the most powerful bosses in the game.
The Yeti: The Yeti is the legendary abominable snowman, taking the form of a huge white gorilla. The Yeti lurks deep in the mountains outside of the castle.
Surge: Surge is a deadly creature that takes the form of a giant bull. Legend tells that Surge controls the weather of the dream realm.
Peril: The giant eyeball monster has returned from the first game, and lurks underground, waiting to ambush Joshua.
Banished: The Banished monster is an enormous Balrog who was sealed away in a tomb thousands of years ago under the castle. It is enwreathed almost entirely in flames, wielding a huge fiery sword.
Omega: The immensely powerful dark god Omega has been waiting for Joshua somewhere deep in the castle. This is the moment you've been waiting for... Finish him off once and for all! Treasures Throughout the game, there will be a wide variety of items, treasures, and other cool stuff that Joshua can collect on his quest to escape his coma.
Rubies: Rubies are used as currency in The Surreal. You may trade them at "spook shops" that appear in certain missions (or, before starting a mission, you may choose mission start, status check, or spook shop option.) where you can purchase objects and items that will help you along your journey. Rubies are rarely obtained just lying on the ground, but the way you get them is slightly grotesque. Rubies are made from the blood of monsters, so you get them after defeating enemies! After an enemy is killed, a certain amount of rubies will be dropped, along with the pile of gore you just created. To get the rest of the rubies from the monsters, you must use your spirit stick to absorb the blood and gore before it disappears, and transfer it into rubies! You will probably get thousands of rubies along your quest. Rubies can also be used for purchasing techniques for your spirit stick. Amigo the Husky may sometimes pick up, sniff out, or dig up rubies that you missed. (when attacking enemies, you may notice words in the corner of the screen that say things like 3HIT!, 4HIT, 5HIT, so on. However many times you have continuously hit the enemy will be displayed in the corner of the screen in this way. If you are damaged or stop attacking for about 2 seconds, these numbers will disappear. The color of the numbers depends on how high they are. 1-5 will be red, 6-15 will be orange, 16-30 will be yellow, 31-49 will be green, and anything over 50 will be white. The higher the number, the more rubies an enemy will drop!)
Sapphires: Sapphires are not used for currency. They have a much more useful purpose. Sapphires extend your vitality bar! You start at 20% health, which is in the red area, but can extend your health to a whopping 200%, which is in the green area. You start out with one Sapphire, and each Sapphire raises your vitality by 10%. Therefore, there are 19 Sapphires to be found. Sometimes, instead of finding whole Sapphires, you will only find Sapphire shards. It takes four shards to make a whole Sapphire. You can find five whole Sapphires, five Sapphires composed of shards, and nine Sapphires that may be purchased at spook shops. Happy hunting...
Golden Nuggets: It is said that gold was created by the immortals, therefore a gold nugget brings back life. When Joshua's vitality bar hits 0%, Joshua will fall to the ground die, and a TRY AGAIN screen appears where you have the option to start over from where you last saved. If this happens when a Gold Nugget is equipped, Joshua shall glow with gold energy, and his vitality bar and Adrenaline bar will both be full again! Joshua can carry three Gold Nuggets at a time. There are twenty Gold Nugget locations throughout the game, and you can always purchase one at a spook shop.
Emeralds: These pretty green jewels will extend your Adrenaline bar! You start out with an Adrenaline bar that lasts for about ten seconds, but your Adrenaline bar can be extended to last up to forty-five seconds! Each emerald extends your Adrenaline bar five seconds, so there are nine Emeralds to be found. Only four can be found in hidden locations throughout the game, and the other five must be purchased at spook shops. (When an Adrenaline bar reaches its max length, it will transform into a shadow bar, which allows Joshua to enter Shadow Mode, attacking even more frantically and powerfully! It does not drain Joshua's vitality bar when he is in Shadow Mode.)
Green Gems: Not to be confused with emeralds, these bright green treasures restore 50% of your Adrenaline bar! Smaller green gems can be found, which restore 20% of your Adrenaline bar.
Diamonds: Diamonds restore 50% of your vitality meter. Smaller Diamonds can be found, which restore 20% of your vitality meter.
Ashes: If Joshua has Shadow Mode, he will find ashes in the locations that the Emeralds used to be. Ashes extend your shadow bar. Your Shadow bar lasts about ten seconds, then is transformed back into the extended Adrenaline bar. You can extend your Shadow Bar to at least thirty seconds. With the combined time of the Adrenaline Bar, that's about one minute and fifteen seconds! (When the Shadow Bar reaches its max length, it will transform into a Holy Bar, which allows Joshua to enter Holy Mode. In this mode, Joshua glows with bright, white energy, can sprint at three times his normal speed, use devastating attacks, and injure enemies just by walking near them. Also, when the Holy bar is in action, Joshua's vitality bar will actually HEAL itself. Your vitality bar will no longer be drained when he enters Adrenaline mode.) Each Ash adds five seconds to the Shadow bar, therefore seven Ashes must be obtained. three ashes can be obtained in hidden locations, and four must be purchased from spook shops.
Sunstones: Sunstones will replace the locations of Ashes and Emeralds. Sunstones extend your Holy Bar. A Holy Bar starts out lasting for ten seconds, and can be extended to twenty seconds. Each sunstone raises the bar by five seconds, so four sunstones must be found. Only two can be found during missions, and only two can be purchased at spook shops.
Brass orbs: Beware! If you kill a monster and a brass orb pops out with the rubies that were dropped, picking it up will only decrease your amount of Rubies by 1,000!
Gold Orbs: If you kill a monster and a gold orb pops out with the rubies that were dropped, picking it up will increase your rubies by 1,000!
Dog Treats: Feed these to Amigo the Husky! Dog Treats will increase Amigo's vitality bar! Amigo starts out with a vitality bar of 50%, but can have it extended to 100%! Each Dog Treat extends Amigo's life bar by 5%, so there are 10 Dog Treats to be found. Five of them can be found during the game, and five must be purchased at spook shops.
Dog Biscuits: These restore Amigo's health by 50%. Scraps can also be found, which restore his health by 20%.
Holy Water: These can be found or purchased at spook shops. You can only hold three of these at a time. When Joshua uses one, they obliterate most weak enemies in the area, and does massive damage to boss creatures!
Crucifixes : These can be found or purchased at spook shops. You can only hold five of these at a time. When used, a barrier appears, separating Joshua from the enemies, giving him a chance to run away!
SPOOK SHOPS Throughout the game, Joshua will encounter strange crucifix shaped figures with the words SPOOK SHOP written on them. Examine the Spook Shops, and you will be taken to a special menu where you can trade Rubies for items and attacks! Sapphires: 10,000 Rubies each Emeralds: 15,000 Rubies each Diamonds: 10,000 Ashes: 20,000 Dog Biscuits: 5,000 Dog Treats: 15,000 Crucifixes: 20,000 Holy Water: 30,000 Vega Stars: 40,000 (these stars allow Joshua to enter adrenaline mode and have invincibility for one minute!) Stick and Sword Techniques (In game 1 I did not list what the techniques actually do, so this time I will.)
1. Bashdown: 15,000- Performance: Joshua will uppercut the enemy with his stick\sword, flinging both him and the enemy into the air. Press the attack button again to perform a front flip, and bring the stick crashing to the ground.
2. Spear Ram 2: 20,000- Performance: Joshua shoots across the ground using magic energy, then impales the enemy and throws them over his head! (In the first version of spear-ram, he runs at the enemy and impales them, but without the head toss.)
3. Javelin: 25,000- Performance: Joshua jumps and throws his spirit stick, impaling an enemy and sticking it to the wall or floor!
4. Runaround: (You Start out with it)- Joshua sticks his stick\sword firmly into the ground, the uses it to support his top half as he runs on surrounding enemies in a circle! Especially useful against Wretcheds.
5. Soul Remove: 5,000- Performance: Press and hold the attack button to try and suck the enemy's essence right out of it. Enemies may put up a fight, so you may have to tap the attack button very, very rapidly. Boss creatures are almost impossible to become victims of this attack. If you are successful, you may absorb certain powers from the enemy, depending on which one you just defeated. For example: If this move is performed on a Wretched, Joshua will be able to use their ability to screech a few times, paralyzing the enemy.
6. Wraparound: 45,000- Performance: Wraps the cord of the spirit stick around the enemy, making it difficult for them to move. Then rapidly spins the enemy, causing massive damage.
7. Cord Kick: 25,000- Performance: Joshua impales enemies on the cord of the spirit stick, and then drags them across the ground into his waiting roundhouse kick!
8. Dicer: 30,000- Performance: Joshua performs several short lighting quick versions of the spear ram level 1. When this is used with the legendary sword of Vega, the sword takes on a large and pionted spear shape, reaching up to eleven feet!
9. Uppercut Slash: 20,000- Performance: The sword version of the Bashdown, except Joshua does a couple quick uppercut slashes first.
10. Sword Throw: 25,000- Performance: The sword version of the Javilen. Make Joshua run fast, then press the analog stick in the opposite direction and press the attack button at the same time. Joshua will come screeching to a halt, throwing his sword in a rapid spin.
11. Double Jump(!!!): 50,000- Performance: Jump once, then jump again at the top of the first. A small wave of adrenaline energy will appear under Joshua's feet, boosting him upwards and allowing him to jump higher and farther. Controls The controls for the Surreal 2 are almost exactly the same as the first game, set up for the Dualshock 2 controller for the Playstation 2. R1: First person aim R2: Call Amigo L1: Exit Adrenaline mode, hold for special attacks L2: Dodge flip L3: Toggle Weapon R3: Toggle Firearm Start: Pause game Select: Check inventory Square: Fire Firearm Circle: Attack with Spirit Stick, Sword. Triangle: Jump, climb, examine. X: Roll, dodge, and crawl. Saving your game: When entering the inventory, you may discover a SAVE option. This allows you to save your status up to this point. Unlike most games, The Surreal 2 allows you to load your game and start off EXACTLY where you saved from! Therefore, saving during fights with enemies should be avoided. If you save during a boss fight, you will start off at the beginning of the level. Mission Summaries I have once again devised short mission summaries for all twenty missions in the Surreal 2. Cutscenes will be presented in quotation marks. The game begins with a cut scene. At the Mission Clear screen at the end of each level, you will be ranked on how good you did. The ranks you receive will be F, D, B, C, and A. You will get an amount of bonus rubies for your rank. Higher ranks receive more Rubies. Mission 1 Cut Scene: (Joshua Remirez sits on his bed, pondering the words of the note left by the mysterious girl. IF YOU WANT ANSWERS, STOP BY THE CABIN IN THE SOUTH FOREST AT MIDNIGHT. Joshua looks down at Amigo the Husky. "Well boy, let's go find some answers." Joshua says, then he opens his bedroom window and slowly climbs down. Amigo follows.) You are on the front porch of Joshua's house. Note that this is the EXACT house from his nightmare in game 1, and this is the EXACT street. You can still travel up and down Hollow St, Wanderer's St, Dogwood St, Eastwood St, and Moonlight St. They will appear EXACTLY as they did in the first game. Only one thing's changed; Joshua does not have super adrenaline powers, and no monsters or demons or zombies will jump out and try to kill you. Joshua is in reality now. You need to get to the cabin in the South Forest, (Where you fought the werewolves and got the Eagle Half in game 1.) so head down Eastwood until you get there. You won't have to wander far into the forest before a cut scene plays. Cut Scene: (Joshua walks through the eerie dark forest, when he hears a whispering sound behind him. He spins around, but nothing is there. He nervously turns around. He feels something cold pass over him, and he whips around once again. At firs, he sees nothing, but then he notices something between the trees. His blood runs cold: A white mask is staring back at him only a couple feet away. The Surreal screeches and swoops into the air, it's menacing eyes fixed on Joshua from deep within its mask...) Well, there's only one thing to do. RUN! Get the hell out of there quick! Just run with Amigo, rolling and dodging between trees and stumps to avoid The Surreal's attempts to grab you with its noose. The Surreal has a disturbing new tactic never displayed before; it can pass through solid objects easily! After awhile, The Surreal gives up and flies away, screaming in rage. When you get to the cabin, another cut scene will play. Cut Scene: ("I think this is the place." Says Joshua, looking at a run down old cabin. "All right, I'm here! Show yourself!" Joshua shouts. A girl with a hood covering her face emerges from the cabin. "Are you Joshua?" The girl asks. "The one who escaped from the nightmare world two years ago?" "How do you know about that?" Demands Joshua. "Ah, then you are him." The girl starts to glow bright blue, then rushes at Joshua, frantically attacking him. The bloody Joshua hits the ground, badly injured. The girl picks up a broken down vehicle out of the garage with one hand! "I must have the wrong person, what a waste." She smirks under her hood, then throws the car right on top of Joshua! The car suddenly stops in midair. A misty blue figure appears from nowhere. "S-spirit?" Joshua stammers. "What the heck?" "He has faced better than you!" Spirit shouts, then with a burst of power sends the car careening back towards the girl. She jumps out of the way as the car smashes into the cabin. She looks back up. "So it is him..." "Spirit!?" Joshua exclaims. "How did you get out of the Dream World!?" Spirit turns to Joshua. "There's an entrance in this cabin. I believe your friend here set it up." Spirit replies, gesturing toward the girl. Joshua gets up and walks over to the girl, ready to fight with Amigo and Spirit by his side. "I've been watching you at school." The girl says. "Yes you have." Joshua says darkly. "You move really fast." The girl continues. "Yes I do." Joshua says. "You jump really high." She goes on. "What's your point!?" Joshua says, looking ready to fight, acting as though she is going to start beating the crap out of him again. "Strange that you can do all that while your mind is set on getting revenge for your mother's death." She says. Joshua's eyes widen. "What did you say?" Joshua inquires. "I said you move fast." The girl replies. "That's not what you said." "Yes it is." "NO IT ISN'T! You said I wanted revenge for my mother's death!" Joshua says angrily. "Well if you know what I said then why were you asking me?" The girl asks, smirking under her hood. "Don't mess with me, lady!" Joshua shouts. "Well if you want answers that bad..." The girl says. She lowers her hood, showing her face. She looks native American. "My name is Cheryl Chiwa. I come from a tribe of Indians who are highly spiritual, so when my strange powers started developing, they took it as a sign from the gods. The truth is, I received these strange powers from nightmares I have recently been having. Nightmares of someone with a big white eye..." "Omega!" Joshua exclaims. "Yes! He has attempted to kill me in my dreams before! You've gone through this once, will you help me? "Why the hell should I help you, after you try to kill me?" Joshua asks. "Because Omega is planning to kill you and your family, and by entering the dream world once again, you can finish him off!" Cheryl says. "What? Where did you here that? How do you even know I've been through this before?" Joshua asks. "Omega." Cheryl says simply. "He always goes raving on about a boy who escaped him. Looks like he should have kept his mouth shut!" Joshua thinks about it, then agrees. "But why did you try to kill me if you needed my help?" Joshua inquires. "I had to make sure you were the right boy." Cheryl says simply. Joshua doesn't even have to think. "No way I'm going back to that hellhole." He says darkly. "But!" Cheryl pleads. "Forget it!" Joshua snaps. "Joshua, wait!" It's Spirit this time. Joshua looks down in surprise. "She's right." He says. "What!? Spirit!" Joshua exclaims. "She's right." Spirit repeats. "We cannot allow Omega's treachery to go any further!" He says. "This is our last chance, and it may be our last hope!" Joshua looks from Spirit to Cheryl, then agrees. Cheryl leads Joshua, Spirit, and Amigo into the old cabin. They sit down in front of a dream catcher. "This is it!" Spirit exclaims. "This is the gateway I passed through!" "Hold my hand." Cheryl tells Joshua. He takes her hand, and a surge of energy flows from the dream catcher into them! They fall unconscious, and awake in a strange world.) Mission 2 Cutscene: (Joshua awakes to find that he is standing outside an enormous castle. He looks up to see the same eerie moon of the dream world, surrounded by the forgotten and empty night sky. He looks over the edge of the castle wall, and looks down to see the ocean! The castle is flying high in the air! Apparently, he is in Cheryl's dream world! Remember in The Surreal when the moon would get closer and closer until it hits the Earth? Well in this game, the castle will get closer and closer to the ocean every day, so its like the theme of the first game in reverse! Joshua finds Cheryl further up the walkway. She now carries a long, rusty sword. "Follow me!" Cheryl yells.) Follow Cheryl up the stony path, and into the enormous doors of the castle. Notice that Joshua starts out with the Spirit Stick, the Pistol, and also has Amigo by his side! He can also jump higher than in the last game. In this game, Joshua starts with 20% health instead of 10%. Amigo still has 50%. Cheryl shall lead you to the grand Main Hall, where you should see a staircase leading to enormous double doors, a strange door with a keyhole resembling a monster's face, and a set of huge pillars leading to yet another set of double doors on the ground. Another cutscene should play. Cutscene: ( Joshua looks at Cheryl. She doesn't look scared and hyped up like he was when he first entered the dream world. "You seem calm." Joshua says. "I've been having this dream for many weeks now." Cheryl says. "Well, how do we find Omega?" Joshua asks. "Hmm, I think his hideout lies somewhere beneath the castle, so we need to find the key to that door." She says, pointing to the door with the demon head. "It's the only way I know. I'll go check the roof, I'll leave the first floor to you, okay?" "Right." Joshua replies.) Cheryl is gone now. It's just you and Amigo. Spirit also resides in your backpack in case you need to check your inventory or see enemy information. Head for the two double-doors on the first floor, you should read an inscription that states THE KEY TO THE UNDERWORLD RESIDES DEEP IN THE COLISEUM. TO PASS THESE GATES, SHOW THE EGG THAT RESIDES IN THE HIVE OF EVIL. This will make sense later. Proceed to the set of doors up the stairs, and try to enter. A rusted cage falls over the entrance, sealing Joshua inside the room. A message will appear onscreen that states BRING ME 50 RUBIES, AND THE WAY WILL BE OPENED. Smash tables and suits of armor to find up to 120 Rubies in the room. If you come back to the door with less than 50 Rubies, the eye will zap you, injuring Joshua! When the Rubies are obtained, the eye will disappear, allowing you to continue into the castle. The hallways are cold and eerie, with crumbling walls and dim candles lighting the hallways. The castle is creepy and deserted, with eerie echoes throughout the tight corridors. There aren't many windows either, so things can get pretty dark. When you get to a fork in the hallway, take a left. You should come to a small set of jeweled doors that require a RUSTED KEY to open. Go back and take a right. You should come to another fork. If you take a right, you will be brought to a bizarre door covered with cobwebs and a spider shaped keyhole. If you try to enter, a message appears onscreen stating I ONLY ACCEPT THOSE WHO BEAR THE KEY WITHIN THE CHAMBER OF SORROW. Whatever. Go back and take a left. Take the dark spiral staircase up to a balcony. This balcony is the West Tower. You get a spectacular view of the castle's surroundings from up here. Anyway, the balcony is lit by candles lining the top, and many sinister looking stone gargoyles line the edges. One of the gargoyles is holding a RUSTED KEY! Take it, but be prepared to face the consequences... Cut Scene: (Joshua begins to leave, when an iron barred door shuts off his retreat off the balcony. A creepy wind blows, and the candles lighting the balcony blow out. The stone gargoyles come to life in the dark!) Fight the pesky gargoyles (about five of them.) and the iron barred doors will open. If they give you trouble, try this trick: Shoot the stands holding the burnt-out candles, and they will ingnite again for a few seconds! This also works when you have the flamestone. Go back to the jeweled doors, and Joshua will enter the courtroom. Mission Complete! Mission 3 Cut scene: (Joshua enters the Courtroom, and sees the King's throne. This is where the King of this castle must have sat when holding his little celebrations. Joshua stops dead in his tracks. Sitting in the King's throne is a cloaked creature, wearing a mask and holding a dream catcher in one hand and a noose in the other. It is the mysterious Surreal enemy from the previous dream! "What are you?" Joshua asks. He has encountered this enemy many times before, but it has never said a word. Heck, he doesn't even know if it's really an enemy. The Surreal flies out of the throne and into a suit of armor. The armor transforms and contorts into a hulking black knight with an immense lance-like weapon! Joshua braces for the attack, but it never comes. The dark knight walks over to the large space in front of the throne, and pulls out its lance. It is WAITING for Joshua to get ready! It appears that instead of using dirty strategies like the previous enemies encountered, the Surreal would rather challenge Joshua to an honorable duel!) Mission 3 Boss: THE SURREAL: The Surreal's black armor is incredibly tough, and should last awhile at 250% health! The huge size of its lance weapon causes it to attack a bit slowly, so you should be able to see its attacks coming and dodge out of its way. This battle revolves around sword fighting, so firearms will not inflict much damage. When it begins to attack with its sword, you can bat it away with exact timing of your swing, and attack it while its defenseless for a few seconds. When the Surreal's life meter reaches 0% health, a cut scene shall play. Cut scene: (The Surreal keels over, then gets back up and prepares to impale Joshua on its sword. Joshua ducks the blow, and rams the spirit stick right through The Surreal! The Surreal pulls itself away in agony, lets out a booming screech, and flies away. Cheryl enters the throne room. "Wow, I watched that fight, you're really strong." Cheryl remarks. "You could have helped!" Joshua pants. "But I didn't, and there's nothing we can do about it." Cheryl retorts. "By the way, I found this on the roof. I'm not big on guns, so you can have it." She tosses Joshua the Musket weapon! "What in the world was that thing?" Cheryl asks. "Old friend." Joshua replies. "Wait, that was, from YOUR dream! Wasn't it? I've never seen that thing before." Cheryl says. "I believe that is correct." Spirit interjects. "Linking your minds together must have allowed some evil from Joshua's mind to leak over into yours!" Cheryl's eyes widen. "Well, I'm going to get out of here before that thing comes back." Cheryl announces. Mission Clear!) Mission 4 Test out the new Musket weapon, then enter a door behind the king's throne. You are now in a creepy dungeon-like hallway with bloodstained walls. You should start hearing disturbing yet innocent laughter towards the end, like the laughter of children. Proceed up a dark staircase, and come into a room labeled ANTIQUE STOCKADE. Enter the stockade, and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua enters the stockade. The room is quiet, containing rocking chairs and open closets, making eerie creaking noises as they rock back and forth. Moonlight pours in through a big bay window. Joshua opens a chest, and finds the Flashlight! He also notices huge life-sized dolls of girls sitting in the chairs and lying against the walls. He tries to open the door leading out of the Stockade. It's locked. Joshua shrugs, then tries to go back out of the door he came through. It's locked too. Joshua thinks he hears someone behind him say "Play with us." He turns around, but no one is in the room but him and Amigo, who is starting to whimper. Joshua tries ramming the door, then spins around as he hears his name. "Joshua." It's one of the giant dolls! The dolls gather themselves off the floor, and creak slowly towards Joshua. One of the toys smashes a mirror. The dolls gather up the razor sharp shards. Blood begins to leak from their joints, staining their dresses. "Joshua." The doll repeats. "You have to play with us now. Forever and ever and ever...") Take on the Bloody Dolls with your new Flashlight and Musket weapons, and finish the deranged puppets off. When you do, the leading out of the room will unlock and slowly open. Go up yet another staircase and enter a large room. This is the library. The library is huge and almost pitch black, so Joshua must use his flashlight. A cut scene plays. Cut scene: (Joshua enters the library and gazes at all of the books in awe. He enjoys reading as a hobby, and takes a little time off to read a book of mythology. Purely out of curiosity, he looks up the name Omega. It tells of a legend of a dark god who rules over the dream world. That sounds familiar. He also finds a story that catches his interest. Long ago in a time long since past, there lived a demonic creature named VEGA. Vega was a horrific creature of tremendous power, haunting the nightmare world and reigning choas among the world of the living. Vega fought along the forces of darkness, bringing utter despair the people of the real world. But Vega learned the ways of good, and fell in love with a human woman. He took human form, and became a gentleman. Vega then fought for the forces of righteousness, eradicating the forces of evil. His name became a legend. It is said in an ancient prophecy that someday, Vega's one true heir will rise up and take Vega's place as the demon slayer. His true heir will rise up in the form of a thirteen-year-old boy named Jos. The rest of the page is ripped off. Joshua stares in disbelief at that last part. Surely the book could not have been talking about HIM? Joshua nearly jumps out of his skin when he hears a mad cackle behind him. A misty white blob floats in the air, and dives into the book he is reading! The book flies up and attacks Joshua! More misty white blobs enter the room, possessing many objects!) The poltergeists will catch Joshua by surprise often in the narrow hallways of shelves. They will posses chairs, books, and last, a copy machine. (What the heck is a copy machine doing in an ancient castle?) When the copy machine is defeated, a cut scene plays. Cut scene: (Joshua slowly approaches the copy machine, when it sucks the pistol right out of his hand! The copy machine whirs and clunks, then spits out the twin pistols, Alpha and Beta! Just then, an immense crash is heard behind Joshua! A caged giant lumbers into the library, knocking over bookcases as it walks. "WHAT HAVE WE HERE?" It roars. "I THINK THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO FIND THE PESKY GIRL, BUT I HAVE FOUND A MUCH BIGGER CATCH!" "Bigger? If you want bigger, try looking in the mirror, tubby." Joshua bravely retorts. "HOW DARE YOU! I WILL CRUSH YOU UNTIL YOU BURST!" The giant screams. Mission 4 Boss: TANTON: Tanton moves extremely slow, heck, he doesn't barely move at all! He doesn't need to, though. His four huge spike balls that he carries can reach across the whole library! In addition, the giant cage that he wears has spikes all over it, and if Joshua or Amigo runs up to attack at close range, they will be injured. Instead, test out the new handguns, Alpha and Beta, on the lumbering brute. Try also to attack with the Spirit Stick in its whip form. When the giant's 300% health bar reaches 0%, a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Tanton screams in rage, then falls out of the third, story window, landing with a thud in front of the castle entrance. He does not move. Joshua notices a door in the corner that was hidden behind a bookcase that Tanton knocked over. Mission Complete!) Mission 4: The torture chamber lies near the place where you first started out, so head all the way back to the castle entrance, fighting the Bloody Dolls and possibly the Gargoyles along the way. You should come to a rusted door, hidden in the shadows. Unlock the door, and proceed into the dismal Torture Camber. Note the furnace lying against the wall. Inside it, Joshua will find the Flamestone, enhancing his attacks with the power of fire! Venturing down the hall, Joshua will see grisly images of people who were chained to the walls and left to die. Continue past these grim sights, and Joshua will come to a strange room with holes in the walls and floor. The camera will switch to the ceiling, and scuttering can be heard, as if something is following and watching Joshua. A door resides at the end of this room, and when Joshua opens it, spikes come out of the holes in the floor and walls! Dodge these deathtraps, and continue forth. Joshua comes into a really, really long hallway. Cracks appear in the floor. Step onto them, and the floor will crumble. The first pit holds rubies, the second holds Sapphires, and the third holds thousands of spikes with skeletons impaled on them. The next room looks like the room where they stretched people on wracks, and there is a corpse lying on one. Go over to the lever on the wrack, and when Joshua pulls it a door will open, and the corpse will be ripped apart. When Joshua gets to the end of the torture chamber, he will find an odd spider shaped plate. This must hold the key that goes to the door that Joshua found in Mission 2! A cut scene should interrupt at this point. Cut scene: (Joshua hears an eerie cry echo through the torture chamber. Suddenly, the skeletons chained to the wall come to life, breaking free from their restraints!) Defeat the skeletal Prisoner enemies, and Joshua will find a HIVE KEY, shaped like a spider! Continue out the door of the torture chamber. Mission Complete! Mission 5: Enter the castle again, and Bloody Dolls will drop from the ceiling! Defeat these enemies, and proceed to the spot where you found the Spider Door. Joshua will walk through the door, fall through a pit, and fall right into The Hive of Evil. A cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua can hear violin music playing in the background. The music is sad and slow, then gradually grows louder and faster. Suddenly, legions of enormous spiders break from the ground and attack!) When the Larva enemies, who are weak to fire, are defeated, another cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua sits down to rest, but jumps to his feet again when a gargantuan brown spider, glowing neon in its belly, lands on the platform. "THINK YOU COULD HARM MY BABIES AND GET AWAY WITH IT, DIDN'T YOU!" The spider roars. "I'LL BRING THEM YOUR CARCASS YET!") Mission 5 Boss: MOTHER RECLUSE: The mother Recluse is extremely hard to attack at long range, because its skin is composed mainly of rock! Get close to the big bug, dodging the swings it launches at you with its four massive forelegs. If the Recluse opens its mouth, it will do one of two things. It will either launch a barrage of rocks from its mouth, or launch at Joshua and pierce him with a poison bite! Joshua must attack its head, which is the only weak part of this freak besides its back, so watch for these attacks often! When you jump onto its back, attack quickly! If you are on its back for too long, three stinger-like neon tails will emerge from its abdomen! When the Recluse's 450% health bar gets down to 0%, another cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua launches a spear ram, which pierces one of the Recluse's eight eyes. The Recluse howls in pain and falls backwards, crashing right through the floor. It lands in a river of flowing magma that resides under the castle, and vanishes. Joshua picks up a GLASS EGG that the Recluse dropped, along with 150,000 Rubies! Mission Clear!) Mission 6: Go back to the large double doors in the main hall, fighting your way through the Prisoners that lie in wait there. A cut scene should play. Cut scene: (Joshua is about to place the glass egg in the double doors, when he hears crashing footsteps behind him. He turns around to see the giant Tanton coming after him once again! "THERE AREN'T ANY WINDOWS TO THROW ME OUT OF THIS TIME, BOY!" The giant screams, and smashes the staircase leading to the upper level. The glass egg Joshua was holding rolls under the pile of rubble. "I don't need any windows; I can bash your skull out myself!" Joshua sneers. Mission 9 Boss #1: TANTON: This battle is pretty much like the first, only Tanton's health meter is extended to 330%. He should be no problem. When he is defeated, a cut scene will ensue. Cut scene: (Joshua sprints at Tanton, readying his spirit stick. Tanton launches all four of his spike balls to the spot where Joshua stands. Joshua quickly dodges, and the balls clunk harmlessly to the ground. Tanton tries to see where Joshua went, but can't find him. Then he looks up. Joshua is standing on his shoulders, with twin pistols Alpha and Beta aimed against his head. The pistols start to glow with ghastly green energy, and Joshua fires two mega charged shots, blasting the giant's head away. Tanton falls dead to the floor.) Gather up the glass egg that you dropped, and place it in the large double doors. The huge doors will creak open, revealing an enormous graveyard, and a small set of doors. Go into the graveyard, and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua tries to see through the misty graveyard, but to no avail. He spins around at the sound of approaching footsteps. He steps back in horror when he sees the creatures that appear! "Ha ha ha! We found him! We found him!" One of the creatures yell. The Wretched zombies from the first game are back!) Wretcheds have a really, really annoying habit of surrounding Joshua, making them tougher to defeat than in the previous game. When the vengeful zombies are no more, a RUSTED KEY will appear in the center of the graveyard. Unlock the doors at the end of the graveyard, and proceed into a huge field. This field contains a set of barred iron doors, a path leading to a forest, and a path with a sign stating, TO THE COLISEUM. The iron doors require a MASTER KEY, which Joshua doesn't have, and the Coliseum doors require a SWORD EMBLEM, which is also not in Joshua's inventory. The obvious path is into the forest. A cut scene will interrupt before you enter. Cut scene: (Joshua nears the forest, when the sun is blocked out by an immense figure. He looks up, and sees an enormous bird with tusks and a devil tail! The bird lands, knocking over the trees that lead to the forest. Joshua looks toward his only retreat, the entrance to the graveyard, which is also sealed by another white eye! The bird looks at Joshua with hungry eyes. "THE OMEGA, MY DEAR MASTER, REQUESTS THAT YOU BE DISPOSED OF. I AM CONFUSED AS TO WHY HE ORDERS ME TO RID THIS CASTLE OF SUCH A WEAK CREATURE, BUT I WILL CARRY OUT MY ORDERS ANYWAY!" The giant bird says. "Weak creature?" Joshua asks angrily. "Buddy, why don't we settle this and see who's the 'weak creature'! Mission 6 Boss #2: THE ROC: The roc will sometimes charge you with its tusks and whip its sharp devil tail at you, but its main technique is to manipulate the wind, transferring it into energy. If you manage to dodge the blasts and get its 500% Health bar down to 0, another cut scene will play. Cut scene: (The Roc curses and flies off. "I WILL RETURN BOY! MY MASTER'S WISH WILL NOT GO UNFULLFILLED!" The Roc will leave behind 50,000 Rubies, and drops the Joltstone as well! Mission clear! Mission 7: The trees knocked down by the Roc are cleared now, so enter the forest. Follow a trail of Rubies, and when they end, Joshua will come to a clearing and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua looks up, and bird-like soldiers fall from the sky! "You must be the boy that our master told us about!" One of the bird-men says. "Yeah," Says Joshua "And you'd better get out of my face if you don't want to end up like him.") Defeat the tough Roc Soldiers, and then venture further into the forest. You should fall into a muddy swamp, and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua picks himself up and wipes himself off, and covers his ears when a shrill screech is heard. He looks up to see a horde of hideous creatures block his path!) Defeat the Bog Imps, and venture forth until you come to a beautiful fountain. An ancient alter resides in front of the fountain, which states: PROVE YOURSELF WORTHY OF THE KEY, THE SCROLL, AND THE SWORD. Mission Clear! Mission 8 Cut scene: (A dark figure drops from the sky, it's the Surreal! The Surreal unsheathes its lance-like weapon and challenges Joshua once again! The Surreal removes its helmet, revealing the white mask that it wears over its face.) Mission 8 Boss: THE SURREAL: The Surreal has a better field of vision, better reaction time, and doesn't flinch as much as it did in the last battle. It also has an extended life bar of 300%. Get its life down to 0%, and a cut scene plays. Cut scene: (The Surreal screams in pain, and then erupts from the suit of armor. The regular, silver suit of armor crashes to the ground. Before Joshua can stop it the Surreal flies away. Joshua turns to the ancient alter, and a MASTER KEY magically appears. Suddenly, the spirit stick flies from his hands and onto the alter. Horrified, Joshua watches as his Spirit Stick disappears into the smoke that the alter emits! The smoke clears, and Joshua finds a new weapon lying on the alter; Joshua's spirit stick has been transformed into a Spirit Sword! A scroll also appears on the alter. Joshua reads it. The heir of the legend has arrived. He is granted the sacred sword, and must rise up to conquer evil. When the heir rises up to meet the challenge, he will become one of them. Joshua's suspicions are confirmed; HE is the heir of the legendary Vega.) Mission 8: Joshua just stands there, gazing dumbly at the sword, then at the scroll. "Spirit, how is this possible? Me, the heir of a legendary demon slayer? There's been a mix up here. It can't be me! I'm just a kid!" Joshua says in disbelief. "There is no mix up." Spirit replies. "You are the true heir." "But!" Joshua starts. "Were you not the one who survived all of the demons that Omega sent after you? Were you not the only one who survived an encounter with Omega? You have proven to me and to your enemies that you are not just a child. To survive these ordeals, you must have been something much more." Spirit assures him. "What's going on?" Joshua spins around to see Cheryl come out of the forest, carrying her sword. "Nothing Cheryl, it's nothing." Joshua lies. "Just had a run-in with an old friend." "If you say so." Cheryl says, and disappears into the forest. Meanwhile, somewhere deep within the castle, the Roc bows to Omega, a giant idol. "YOU AND YOUR MEN HAVE FAILED ME. I EXPECTED BETTER THAN THIS, ROC." Omega says angrily. "YES MASTER, THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN." The Roc replies. "OH, IT WON'T. HERE'S WHY!" Omega blasts the Roc full of searing energy. The Roc screams and begs for mercy. As the Roc's screams grow, Omega's maniacal laughter rings throughout the castle.) Head all the way back through the swamp and forest, battling Bog Imps and Wretcheds as you go. When you get to the field, use the Master Key to unlock the iron gates. Mission 9: Continue up the path, which leads to a mountain trail. Continue up the trail until you find something lying in the middle of the path, the SHOTGUN! When you pick up the shotgun, a cut scene will roll. Cut scene: (Joshua hears an eerie howl, and two wolves emerge from the surrounding forest! Amigo growls and barks viciously, baring his teeth. "Easy boy." Joshua says. "Looks like you’ve got yourself some competition!) Battle the mountain wolves, (Make sure Amigo helps you.) and then continue up the long path leading to the mountain's peak. After a while, you should notice that it's very frustrating walking the whole way up this long, boring path. You're in luck; you should see a shed about half way up the mountain. Enter the shed, and Joshua finds his new best friend. A shiny Honda Motorcycle is resting in the middle of the floor. Looks like some good things made it into Cheryl's dreams too! Driving the Honda. L3: Steer. X: Accelerate Square: Break R3: Although Joshua has had experience in the past, riding up a steep mountain will not be easy. If Joshua starts to lose his balance or swerve violently (He's only 13) shift R3 in the direction he needs to go in order to straighten him out. Ride up the mountain, jumping obstacles and ledges. You may encounter some Roc Soldiers, but you can run them down now. Beware: Ramming the Roc Soldiers may knock Joshua off balance! When things start getting snowy, more wolves will emerge from their hiding places. At the mountain's peak, Joshua will find a log cabin. Press R2 when completely stopped to get off the motorcycle. Inside, he finds an Emblem Sword, which will unlock the gates of the Coliseum! Take it, but be prepared to face the consequences. Cut scene: (Joshua exits the cabin, and finds a hideous creature facing him! The legendary Yeti has appeared, and it looks hungry! Before Joshua can stop it, it crushes his motorcycle in a fit of rage! The big white monkey roars, and the battle begins!) Mission 9 Boss: THE YETI: The Yeti attacks by slamming Joshua with its fists and throwing him around with its mighty jaws! The Yeti is weak to fire, so equip the flamestone and whittle away at the Yeti's 350% health meter. When its life drops to 0%, the Yeti falls over dead. Be sure to grab the Frost stone that it drops! Mission Clear! Mission 10: Venture back down the mountain, (On foot this time. Ugh.) and into the field again. Put the Emblem Sword into the slot, and the doors to the Coliseum will open. Walk inside, and they will slam behind you, locking you in! A cut scene should play. Cut scene: (Joshua enters the coliseum, and is nearly knocked off his feet when something enormous swoops over him! The Roc has returned!) Mission 10 Boss: THE ROC: This battle is almost exactly like the previous one, except the Roc's wind projectiles move faster with more accuracy, he shoots feather projectiles from his wings, and his vitality meter has been extended to 550%! When his life reaches 0%, a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (The Roc screeches in rage, and Joshua jumps up and cuts both of its wings off with the spirit sword. The great white eye of Omega appears in the sky. Omega's voice is heard. "USELESS SCUM OF A BIRD!" A spear-like projectile launches from the eye, impaling the Roc's chest. The Roc falls over, dead. "JOSHUA, YOU WRETCHED BOY, I WILL DEAL WITH YOU LATER!" Omega says, and the white eye vanishes. Joshua stands with a look of absolute hate in his eyes. Sure, he loves it when bad guys get theirs, and he was going to kill the Roc anyway, but he knows that it's wrong the way that Omega kills his own men. Mission Complete!) Mission 11: An object appears in the middle of the coliseum, so pick that up. It is an ORB HALF, which is one half of the key that is used to enter hell! The other half must reside somewhere in the castle. Pick up the Grenade gun as you leave also! When you leave the Coliseum, note that darkness has fallen on the floating castle; it's nighttime now! The huge field is empty and eerie in the dark. Head back into the graveyard, and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua walks through the dark graveyard, and steps back in terror as he sees an old foe: a Reaper enemy is floating towards him, carrying six scythes!) Defeat the deadly Reaper, and venture back into the castle. Since night has fallen, don't forget that gargoyles now roam free. The castle is dark now, and has somehow morphed since the last time you were in it! The staircase has regenerated itself, and a new hallway appears in place of the fork in the hall! Take this hallway, which leads to the East Tower. A cut scene shall play. Cut scene: (Joshua carefully walks out onto the platform. It is pouring rain and a thunderstorm brews. Suddenly, two creatures fall from the sky! The Blak Kat enemies from the original Surreal have returned!) Defeat the powerful Blak Kats, and they a stairway leading to the roof will magically appear! About halfway up the stairs, you will encounter a gap in the steps. This gap is really wide, and cannot be cleared unless the special double jump move has been purchased! If you do not have double jump, there is a spook shop down where you fought the Blak Kats. When you enter the rooftop, a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (A bolt of lightning strikes in front of Joshua! He looks on in amazement as the storm stops in its tracks, and then starts to come together! The rain and electricity form into the shape of a giant bull!) Mission 11 Boss: SURGE: Surge will electrocute you if you come to close. In addition, all attacks with the Spirit Sword are useless; they will only injure Joshua as electricity travels through the electric sword. Metal bullets fired from the shotgun and musket will also have no effect on the bull. This leaves you with only a few options: Use the spirit stick and grenade gun, or whip out twin pistols Alpha and Beta. These should be able to make a dent in the monstrosity's 460% health bar! When the bull's vitality meter reaches zero, it will explode and die, leaving a hole in the roof where it stood. Be sure to pick up the Aquastone that it drops! Jump in the hole, and Mission Clear! Mission 12: Joshua will land in a cramped hallway, which begins to fill with water! The castle is flooding! Equip the Aquastone, and begin swimming through the flooded corridors. Be sure to watch out for the swimming Bog Imps! You should eventually come to a place not flooded with water. Here, you will find a beautifully decorated box. The box is inscribed with the words: I AM THE SECOND KEY TO THE UNDERWORLD. Open it, and you will find the second ORB HALF! The demon head door in the main hall can now be opened! Along with the orb half, you will find a golden pistol, Gamma! The Alpha-Beta-Gamma family is now completed! To many a player's disappointment, Joshua is unable to fire Gamma at the time! Oh, well, Mission Complete! Mission 16: Cut scene: (Cheryl is sitting on the steps of the stairway to the main hall. Joshua emerges from the hallway, soaking wet. "Hi Cheryl!" Joshua says, happy to see her. Amigo barks also, as if greeting her. "I found this funky gold gun, but I can't fire it. Could you try?" Cheryl aims the gun at a pillar, and fires. A gold bullet smacks into the pillar. "You must have the magic touch, I guess. Hey, I found the key to the weird demon-door down there! We can go take on Omega now!" "Um, Joshua." Cheryl starts. But Joshua has already started to put the orb in the demon mouth. Cheryl zooms over to Joshua and bats him away. Joshua lands with a thud away from the door. Cheryl catches the orb. "Hey, what was that for?" Joshua demands. "I'm sorry Joshua, but I can't let you enter. I lied to you." Cheryl says, casting her head towards the floor. "Huh?" Joshua asks. Cheryl lets out a painful sigh. "I lied to you. The "raised by Indians" thing was the best I could come up with." She draws her sword. "Huh?" Joshua repeats. "My orders have been made clear, if I don't kill you, Omega will kill me." "HUH?" Joshua says again. He knows full well what Cheryl said, he just won't believe it. "Just hold still. I'll make it quick." Cheryl says grimly. (Oh come on, is there anyone who DIDN'T see this coming?) Joshua comes to his senses and dodges just before Cheryl's sword grows huge and slams to the ground. "Cheryl, stop! You know you don't want to do this!" Joshua pleads. Cheryl lowers her sword. "You're right Joshua, I don't want to do this." Cheryl says calmly. "Whew." Joshua is relieved. "But there are many things in my job that I don't want to do. Can't you see? I DO like you! I DON'T want to do this! But I CAN'T refuse an order given by...him." Cheryl says, as if she felt it too painful to say Omega. She lunges at Joshua. Mission 16 Boss #1: CHERYL CHIWA: Cheryl will attack furiously with her sword. She will not flinch from any attacks, and has no life bar. This isn't much of a battle, since you cannot hurt Cheryl. The only thing to do is dodge her attacks and run away. Don't forget, she also wields Gamma now! About three minutes into this awkward battle, a cut scene will interrupt. Cut scene: (Joshua backs away in panic from Cheryl. He realizes that he cannot harm her. An immense crash knocks both Joshua and Cheryl off their feet, and the floor of the main hall begins to crack. Tentacles emerge from the cracks. Eye covered tentacles. The tentacles lift up the huge body of) Mission 16 Boss # 2: PERIL!!!: Peril is back, and it wants revenge on Joshua for its dismal failures to kill him in the past. Peril has all of the annoying attacks from the original Surreal, but you must now dodge Cheryl's attacks as you fight it! Cheryl still has no life bar, but can now be knocked away from both Joshua's and Peril's attacks. Get Peril's immense life bar (600%) down to 0, and a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Peril lets out an earsplitting scream and thuds to the floor. Before the monster disappears, it swings one of its tentacles at Joshua and Cheryl. They both duck, but the tentacle cuts straight through one of the pillars in the main hall! The pillar creaks, then topples to the floor, heading straight for Cheryl! Joshua and Amigo race to help. Amigo jumps and pushes Cheryl out of the way, but Joshua is hit and crushed under the pillar! Cheryl and Amigo look back at the rubble. A flash of gold light appears, and Joshua rises up! He had a spare gold nugget in his inventory! Joshua calls for Amigo and points his guns at Cheryl. "Give me the orb!" Joshua demands. Cheryl hands it over. She notices tears in his eyes. He starts toward the demon head door. "Joshua." Cheryl starts. "What do you want?" Joshua asks. "Why, why did you save me? I'm just another monster now..." She reminds him. "Because, I was lonely. When I was trapped in my coma, I was alone. I have no friends at school; they all think I'm a freak. And now, I met you. And I had a friend for the first time. Not just another monster. I wasn't alone anymore. But I guess that's changed now. I'm alone again." And he exits through the demon head door, entering the dark dungeons of the underworld. Cheryl starts toward the door, but the white eye of Omega appears, blocking her way! "GOING SOMEWHERE, CHERYL?" The booming voice of Omega says.) Mission Complete! Mission 14: Cut scene: (Joshua's spirit sword grows extremely heavy. He groans in agony, lifting it high above his head. His hands grow hot, and energy blasts from the sword into him. He is filled with pain so unbearable, all he wants is for it to end, he wants to black out, to die. A supernatural mist surrounds his Spirit Sword, and it makes yet another change. The sword transforms once again, into the legendary Vega sword! This massive sword is the true form of the Spirit Stick, the sword that was once wielded by the legendary demon slayer, Vega. The massive dragon skull that the sword is made out of stares back at Joshua and he senses deep within him something that feels like terror, power, and rage all at the same time. When he confronted Cheryl, he felt a great sadness in his heart. But he also felt hatred, a deep, burning hatred deep within him. The sword seems to grow darker, and Joshua's face twists into a smile. This sword is the result of his hate, and now he can let it all out...) Proceed through the dark, quite, stony hallway. A cut scene should interrupt somewhere along this dismal, deserted hall. Cut scene: (Joshua continues down the hallway, when horrifying creatures emerge from the darkness! The Death Imps attack Joshua!) Test out the abilities of your friggin huge sword against these monkeys from hell, and proceed into a circular chamber filled with lava: The Magma Chamber! A cut scene should play when you enter. Cut scene: The lava swells, then a familiar creature jumps out. The Mother Recluse has mutated into a frightening new form! Instead of the neon glowing belly, it has lava running up and down its underside and its three stinger tails! "SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME?" The Magma Recluse screams in rage. "YOU SHALL PAY!") Mission 14 Boss # 1: MAGMA RECLUSE: This battle is much like the previous one, except instead of shooting rocks, the Recluse shoots fireballs! Also, jumping onto its back to attack will only burn Joshua severely. Equip the Frost stone and attack from a distance. When the Magma Recluse's improved health bar (500%) falls to zero, a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua will leap high into the air, bringing the Vega sword down onto the spider. He slashes off the spider's head and legs, and the spider thuds to the floor. Joshua picks up the ANCIENT KEY that it drops. "If my calculations are correct, the Recluse will be able to grow lost limbs, including its head, back in a matter of hours." Spirit states. "Too bad it's not permanent," Joshua remarks. "It's a nice improvement.") Mission Clear! Mission 15: A large circular platform should rise up in the middle of the room. The platform has archaic ritual writings on its base, and a small keyhole in the middle. This must be where the ANCIENT KEY goes! Double-jump over the bubbling lava, and insert the key into the hole. Cut scene time! Cut scene: (Joshua tries to cram the key into the tiny hole, when something erupts from the lava! A strange fox-like creature jumps up and snatches the key from Joshua! It is the deadly Blaze enemy from the previous dream!) This fight might be a little tough, because Joshua must roll frantically to put out the fires that try to consume him, shot by the Blaze. You might accidentally roll right into the lava and die! Use the Frost stone to put this fire-fox out of business. It should drop the ANCIENT KEY in addition to Rubies. Leap over the deadly magma again, and put the key in the hole. Time for another cut scene! Cut scene: (Joshua turns the key, and a hideous roaring sound is heard from under the platform. The top of the platform blows off as the whole thing erupts in flame. Luckily, Joshua lands safely on the outside ring of the magma chamber. A goat-like head emerges from the steaming ruckus, and Joshua realizes that he has just released a horrible, demonic creature!) Mission 15 Boss: BANISHED: The magma chamber will immediately begin to fill with fire, so quickly exit through a new corridor that has opened. The monstrous balrog will crash through the wall, and chase you onto a long, narrow bridge. Below the bridge is an enormous canyon, disappearing into the shadows. (Why do I feel like I'm writing the plot to "The Lord of the Rings"?) The monster's life bar will not appear until then. It is an insane 650%. Dodge the Banished's spear-like weapon, using frost attacks to bring its life down to 0. You are in danger of being knocked off the rickety, narrow bride throughout the whole battle. When the Banished's life gets down to nada, it will scream in rage and grasp at its chest, as if trying to breath. It will start freezing over, and the immense weight of the ice is too much for the bridge! Run off quickly, or you will be condemned to the same fate as the monster you just terminated! With the bridge destroyed, Joshua has no choice but to proceed into the enormous double doors in front of him. You will proceed into another fiery, hell like room. A river of lava will flow through the center of the long dungeon. Platforms may appear floating down the river. Some of these may contain special items, such as emeralds and holy waters, but beware: Blaze enemies will emerge from the river, and if you stay on a platform too long, you will be swept down an enormous waterfall of lava! When you proceed to the end of this dungeon, you will see a pair of huge eggs blocking the door out. A cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua carefully approaches the eggs, and they burst open in flames! A pair of enemies that look like smaller versions of the Pyro Dragon from the last game emerge!) Defeat the hell-born Pyro Babies, and exit out the door that the eggs were blocking. Mission Complete! Mission 16: Cut scene: (Joshua enters a room containing what looks like a shrine. He then spots something terrifying: A large cross stands in the middle of the room, and nailed to it is, Cheryl! Joshua rushes over to help. She has been nailed across her middle and on her wrists. Joshua tries to remove one, but Cheryl screams. "Don't, it hurts too much, just go on, let me, let me be in peace." Cheryl says quietly. Joshua realizes that he is losing her. Just then, a big white eye appears over the cross, and the voice of Omega is heard. "WELL, WELL, WELL. THE MIGHTY JOSHUA HAS A WEAKNESS AFTER ALL." Omega chuckles. "Let her go, you slime ball!" Joshua shouts angrily. "Your conflict is with me!" "MY CONFLICT IS WITH EVERYBODY, FOR I SHALL RULE THE EARTH SOON." Omega announces. "NOW CHOOSE." "Choose? Choose what?" Joshua demands. He isn't in the mood to be toyed with. A small image projects from the white eye. In it, Joshua sees his father at home, worrying and trying to find where his son went. Then, Joshua notices a shadowy figure lurking behind his father! "IF I GIVE THE COMMAND, THAT DEMON WILL RIP YOUR FATHER TO SHREDS. CHERYL IS WIRED THE SAME WAY." Omega says, amused with his twisted game. Joshua reaches for the Vega on his back. The nails bury themselves deeper into Cheryl's body, and she writhes in agony. "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. BLINK, THEY DIE." Omega laughs. "SO WHO WILL IT BE, MIGHTY HUMAN? KILL THE FATHER YOU LOVE, OR DIE YOUR ONLY FRIEND?" "S-save your f-father Joshua!" Cheryl insists. "I t-t-tried to k-kill you!" Joshua's head is pounding in frustration, he can't think over Cheryl's pleading, Omega's booming voice, and is horrified by the image of the demon creeping closer and closer to his father. He comes to a conclusion. "TAKE ME!!!" He drops to his knees and screams. "Joshua, no!" Cheryl screams. A blinding white light engulfs Joshua, and he blacks out. Joshua awakes and gathers himself to his feet. He is in a beautiful room, with sunlight pouring through the windows. The dazzling crystal floor sparkles, as do the diamond pillars. At the far end of the room, Joshua sees an enormous idyllic statue. The idol resembles Buddha, and has four arms, four wings, and an immense white eye in the middle of its face. Joshua has met this creature before. "JOSHUA, THAT WAS A VERY BRAVE DESCISION YOU MADE BACK THERE. EXTREMELY IDIOTIC, BUT VERY BRAVE." Omega says. "DO YOU KNOW WHY I TOOK YOU?" "Shoot." Joshua says through gritted teeth. "SURELY YOU HAVE READ THE PROPHECY TELLING OF A GREAT DEMON SLAYER, VEGA. YOU HAVE PROOF ON YOUR BACK." He says, referring to the Vega Sword. "Yeah yeah yeah, I'm the true heir of Vega, and I get to have his sword and everything. I read that part, you wanna make somethin' of it?" Joshua says darkly. "DID YOU ALSO READ THE PART STATING THAT YOU MUST BATTLE ME, OR ELSE THE NIGHTMARE REALM SHALL RISE UP AND TAKE CONTROL OF THE HUMAN WORLD?" Omega inquires. "That part I missed." Joshua says, dumbstruck. "WELL, PESKY HUMAN FLY, LET'S BEGIN. SURRENDER TO YOUR FATE!" Omega booms.) Mission 16 Boss: THE DARK EMPEROR OMEGA: Omega remains a stationary idol, using only one weapon: His glowing white eye. This will shoot immense white beams in an arc that you must dodge. It will also shoot many sharp needle like projectiles towards you. Finish off his humiliating 100% vitality bar, and a cut scene will interrupt. Cut scene: (After all of Joshua's frantic attacks, Omega remains completely unharmed. Joshua backs away in horror as Omega's white eye glows brighter. "THIS IS THE HEIR OF THE LEGENDARY VEGA? WHAT A JOKE. NOW DIE, AND MY DREAM WILL BE COMPLETE! AHAHAHAHAHA!" Omega fires an immensely powerful energy beam at Joshua. Just then, Joshua turns around and sees Cheryl running towards him! She broke free of her cross! "NO!" Cheryl screams. "I WON'T LET YOU KILL HIM!" She rushes toward Joshua and pushes him out of the way. The beam of energy slams right through her, and she falls to the floor, dead. The beautiful crystal floor is tainted red with her blood. Back in the old cabin, Cheryl falls lifeless to the ground. Joshua stares in disbelief, and he's not the only one. "HOW COULD SHE SHOW AFFECTION FOR THAT USELESS BOY? SHE IS MY CREATION! I GUESS I DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE I USED TO." Omega says calmly. "NO MATTER, YOU SHALL DIE NOW!" Omega fires yet another beam towards Joshua. It slams right into him. When the smoke clears, he is still standing there, glowing with supernatural energy! "Let's end this, you bastard." Joshua says furiously. The room begins to creak, and then fall apart! Omega is starting to move! The enormous idol creaks, and then bursts forth with all of his power! He has come to life to battle Joshua for real this time! "IT SEEMS YOU BOTH HAVE A DEATH WISH! SEE YOU IN HELL!" Omega roars. He blasts through the floor, and him and Joshua crash down onto a fiery, hell-like chamber. Suddenly, Joshua is filled with the most agonizing pain he could imagine. He screams as the Vega Sword seems to get heavier, and supernatural energy pulses through him! "WHAT IS GOING ON!?" Omega shouts. "WHY IS HE INCREASING IN POWER!?" Joshua's eyes glow red, and he leaps into the air. He explodes with energy, and when the it clears, Joshua is no longer in the air. A strange, monster-like creature appears in his place. In his new form, Joshua's body is still human-like, but he has four bat wings and a devil tail! The sword of Vega pulses with energy on his back. "AH YES, A SPECIAL POWER THAT WAS TO BE GRANTED TO THE TRUE HEIR OF VEGA." Omega says simply. "STRANGE THAT IT WOULD TURN OUT THIS WAY!" Joshua remebers what the scroll said. When the heir rises up to meet the challenge, he will become one of them. Joshua looks down at himself and smirks. "Ready to die, Omega?" The monster-Joshua asks. "ONLY IF YOU ARE." Says Omega. FINAL BOSS: TRUEFORM OMEGA: (Sorry, but Amigo can not participate in this battle.) The ground is molten hot and fiery, so jump onto the rock platforms that often appear. Omega has a really annoying habit of smashing these, knocking Joshua into the lava. You must chase Omega through the fiery lava river, dodge his attacks, avoid falling into the lava, and damage Omega's immense 700% life bar all at the same time! Omega will attack from close range by punching with his four massive arms. He may also sweep you away from him with his four huge wings. When at long range, Omega may cause the lava underneath you to shoot up, and may send waves of lava at you. He will shoot spear projectiles glowing white at you, so press L2 frantically to perform a series of wild flips and dodges! When he fires his massive white eye-beam, move to the corner of the screen so you can see it coming better. Avoid this attack even if it means dodging into the lava, because it will shatter rock platforms and if it hits it will do massive damage. Joshua has a special form of Adrenaline during this battle. When the Adrenaline bar reaches max, Joshua will not glow with the classic green energy, but will instead transform into his special monster form, granted to him by the legendary demon slaying sword Vega! In this form, Joshua will recover vitality, and instead of performing double jumps, he will spread his wings and fly! When in this form with the pistol equipped, hold down the fire button until Joshua's pistol glows bright red. He will fire a Spirit Dragon, doing immense damage, just like in the last game! This will not end the battle, but it will do around 200% damage to Omega. When Omega is finally brought down to 10% health, a cut scene will interrupt. Cut scene: ("NOOOOOOO! A MERE BOY WILL NOT DEFEAT ME! JOSHUA, YOU WILL PAY! YOU WILL!" Omega is cut off by a Spirit Dragon that Joshua fires, right into his mouth! Omega's head explodes, and the river of lava carries him away. Joshua is magically transported to the beautiful crystal room, which has been completely restored. He feels lighter, and looks at himself to see that his wings have dissapeared. He is in human form. He was impressed with his new body, but something is worrying him. "Spirit," Joshua says. "When the scroll said that I would, become one of them, did it mean that I wouldn't, how should I say this, be myself any more? Like, did I lose control back there? It's just, when I held this sword for the first time, I felt something...evil." "If you are even trying to suggest that you have something evil in you, don't." Spirit says. "But...!" Joshua starts. "If you want proof, look at your dog." Spirit cuts him off. Amigo, who can usually detect evil right away, his still sniffing him and acting friendly. "Well, he couldn't sense Cheryl!" Joshua says. "Yes, but it turns out that Cheryl wasn't evil, just being controlled." Spirit replies. They both give a moment of silence for Cheryl. She is still there, lying dead on the floor. "Cheryl, I'm sorry." Joshua says, lowering his head. "Joshua," Spirit says. "Even people who are truly evil like Omega can be brought to light under the right circumstances. But the boy who is standing in front of me would never become a monster on the inside, just on the outside." Joshua feels slightly reassured. He exits the room, and is back where Cheryl once rested on her cross. Mission Clear!) Mission 17: The castle is about to hit the ocean! The bottom levels immediately start to flood. You cannot swim in this water, because it is boiling hot when mixed with the lava that resides in the chambers that Joshua just ventured through. Get your ass moving! Run into the "river of lava" dungeon immediately. Be careful! The shaking castle will easily throw Joshua off his feet! PAY ABSOLUTELY NO ATTENTION TO THE ENEMIES. They will die as the water starts rising. At the end of the chamber, a hole appears in the roof. Jump through, and you will find yourself in the dungeon where you first encountered the Death Imps. Run out the demon head door and into the hall. The water rises even faster now, so hurry up the stairs and into the corridor. When you get to East Tower, note that the stairway leading to the roof requires more difficult jumps now! When you get to the roof, Joshua has nowhere left to go! A cut scene interrupts. Cut scene: (With nowhere left to run, Joshua drops to the floor. "We're done for, Spirit." Joshua says grimly. "NO!" Spirit shouts. "There must be another way!" Just then, the castle roof begins to crack, and out bursts the last person Joshua wants to see right now. Omega's face is hideous and twisted now, as is the rest of his body, singed by the lava. His wings have been melted away. Joshua backs away in absolute horror. "JOSHUA! I SAID YOU'D PAY. NOW SUFFER! IF I GO DOWN I'M TAKING YOU WITH ME!" Omega croaks. He knocks Joshua's weapons away. "NO! No, this isn't happening, we're all going to die!" Joshua screams. Then, a glowing misty light appears next to Joshua. "Joshua, don't be scared, you can do it." A voice is heard. "WHAT THE?" Omega says, awestruck. The glowing light comes together, and Cheryl appears! She picks up Joshua's weapons, handing him Alpha and Beta. She raises Gamma towards Omega. "Let's take him down together!" Cheryl says. "Right!" Joshua says. He has no clue how Cheryl is alive, but he does it anyway.) Mission 20 SPECIAL BOSS: DYING OMEGA: This isn't much of a battle; all you do is fire the pistol into Omega until your adrenaline meter is full. Then, when the chime sounds, a cut scene will play. Cut scene: (Joshua and Cheryl enter adrenaline mode. All three pistols, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, glow with supernatural powers. The two children fire the weapons at the same time, and the three supped up bullets slam into Omega, blasting him into oblivion! Before he dies, Omega manages to shout: "THERE WILL BE OTHERS!" Joshua smirks. "Well than at least you'll have some friends in hell!" He shouts after him. Joshua turns around and faces Cheryl. She runs and hugs him. "Cheryl, what the hell?" Joshua says. He then turns to Spirit to see that he is exhausted. "Spirit, did you?" Joshua starts. "Hehehe, yeah." Spirit says. Spirit has the power to revive people by giving them his life energy. The castle rocks immensely. Cheryl and Joshua look over the side. During the battle with Omega, the castle flew into the sky again, but is now plummeting back towards the water. "Joshua, it's too late. We're done for." Cheryl says. "Wait a second, no we're not!" Joshua says. "Spirit! We're about five hundred feet in the air! If we jump from here, with the help of our Adrenaline energy, what speed would we reach?" Spirit realizes where Joshua is going. "Very, very fast." Says Spirit. "Cheryl, you're going to have to trust me!" Joshua says. "Okay, I guess." Cheryl says nervously. They approach the edge, and hold each other's hand. They look into the other one's eyes, and then dive from the roof of the castle. They fall and fall, picking up velocity and speed. When they reach about halfway to the ocean floor (250 feet) they let loose their adrenaline energy, blasting them forward. The combined energy of the adrenaline blasts them at unimaginable speed, and right before they hit the ocean they are blasted out of the dream dimension! (For those of you who are confused, great speeds must be reached in order to escape from the dream dimension.) Back in the cabin, the two children are jolted awake. They stare at each other, then look away, slightly embarrassed. "Well, that was interesting." Joshua says. "It certainly was." Cheryl agrees. "I'm sorry I had to make you go through that again." "No problem! If you think that was bad, try facing my mom at home!" Joshua laughs, and then bows his head at the thought of his deceased mother. "Well, I'm going home." Joshua says. "My dad's probably going crazy looking for me." He starts to head towards the door, but stops. "Hey Cheryl, where are you going to go?" He asks. "I'll find somewhere, don't worry about me." Cheryl says. "But!" Joshua starts. "I said don't worry!" Cheryl says. "I need some time alone." "If you say so." Joshua says and walks out the door. That night, Joshua is greeted by a frantic father and worried brother. When in his bedroom that night, a loud and painful ringing starts in his ears. He hears Cheryl's voice inside his head. "Joshua, help, its back, in the, can't, need." Her voice cuts off. Joshua feels panic. "Should I go see what's wrong?" Joshua asks Spirit. "No." Spirit replies. "You need your rest. She'll be fine. You saw how powerful she is, and besides, we don't even know where she is; she could be miles away by now. "Okay." Joshua nervously agrees. "If you say so." He falls asleep, slightly uneased. Meanwhile, something comes out of the cabin where Joshua and Cheryl entered the dream world. The creature swings a dream catcher in one hand, and a noose in the other. I will return, the creature thinks to itself. And this time, it will be when young Joshua least expects it.
Game completion bonuses:
Complete the game once on NORMAL difficulty to unlock the Holy Stone for your inventory along with the new difficulty HARD MODE.
HARD MODE: In HARD MODE, tougher enemies may appear in place of weaker ones. For example: In Mission 7, where you usually fight the Bog Imps, you will instead fight the Death Imps! Enemies also have life bars extended by 50%.
Complete Hard Mode to unlock a second playable character, Cheryl! Cheryl comes equipped with everything Joshua had in Hard Mode, along with the Gamma gun and the Ally sword! When playing as Cheryl, some dialogue will be different, and the battles with the Roc will be replaced with battles with the Pyro Dragon from the last game! By completing hard mode, Nightmare mode is also unlocked.
NIGHTMARE MODE: In nightmare mode, enemies will have life bars increased by 100%, and enemy locations are the same as Hard Mode. In addition, a thirty-second timer will appear on the screen whenever a new enemy is encountered. When this timer reaches 0, enemies will enter their own version of Adrenaline mode. Boss creatures will take no damage from Joshua unless he is in Adrenaline mode.
Complete nightmare mode to unlock unlimited Adrenaline energy for both Joshua and Cheryl! In addition, when entering Adrenaline mode, Joshua will transform into his special monster form displayed in the final battle with Omega! CHERYL's SPECIAL MISSIONS When playing as Cheryl, you may find things to be slightly different than with Joshua...
1. Cheryl does not fight Tanton in the library, she instead fights Bloody Mary. She does, however, fight Tanton the second time around, and the cut scene of Tanton's defeat shows Joshua saving Cheryl and finishing Tanton off.
2. The FIRST Roc battle is, not a Roc battle. Cheryl steps into the enormous field, and the sky glows red. Out comes the Pyro Dragon from Game 1! The dialouge between Cheryl and the Dragon is the same as Joshua and the Roc. The Pyro Dragon uses all the devastating attacks it did in the first game, and sometimes shoots Pyro Spirits (30% each) at you. In the coliseum, however, Cheryl fights the Roc.
3. Mission 5 will be replaced with a Mission in which Cheryl must travel to the castle roof to find the Torture Chamber Key, and must take an alternate path around the outside of the castle in order to reach the Torture Chamber.
4. In Mission 15, something will be VERY different... Cut scene: (Cheryl swims gracefully into the Royal Ballroom. An immense crash is heard, and Cheryl spins around. An enormous creature has broken through the wall! Get ready for a blast from the past...) Mission 15 Boss: NILE: An intense battle with the Nile from the previous game! And ENTIRELY UNDERWATER! The Nile will use all of his underwater attacks that he did in the first game. This fight seems almost impossible on NIGHTMARE MODE.
5. On the Boss battle of Mission 16, Cheryl obviously can't fight herself. The same cut scene will play, yet the boss is... Mission 16 Boss: JOSHUA REMIREZ: Yikes! If you have played The Surreal #1, you may realize that this is almost exactly like fighting Weapon, minus a few attacks. Joshua's life bar is the same as yours, but watch out for Amigo! After he is defeated, you will still fight Peril and the cut scene in which Joshua is crushed by the pillar plays, yet the white eye does not appear on the door; Cheryl follows after Joshua into the underworld.
6. In Mission 19 when you fight Omega, a different cut scene will play. Cut Scene: (Cheryl opens her eyes. An immense pain is running through her chest. Omega had just blasted through the floor with Joshua, and she is lying on a piece of smoldering rock. The pain grows, but instead of becoming dim, the room becomes bright and clear. The pain dissapears, and Cheryl gathers herself to her feet. She looks up to see a bright blue and white glow. "You, you're Joshua's Spirit!" Cheryl exclaims. Spirit floats over Cheryl. He has healed her, and is weak. "Yes...now go...and help Joshua..." Spirit says. And he closes his eyes and dissapears. Cheryl hurries through the magma river, but cannot seem to find Joshua anywhere. A bright light washes over her, and she is transported back to the crystal room. She is about to leave, when the floor starts to crumble once again! Out comes the hideous body of the Dying Omega! This battle is very much like the Omega battle when playing as Joshua, only he cannot fly, and Cheryl does not have a monster adrenaline form.
7. CHERYL'S ENDING SEQUENCE: The regular ending cut scene plays, but continues differently after Joshua leaves the cabin. Cheryl is walking along the forest path, wondering where she will go and what she will do now that she is no longer Omega's slave. She thinks she hears a faint whispering behind her. Just then, a masked and cloaked creature swoops down, and Cheryl lets out a scream. Game end. (Yes, I know, that sucks.)
8. If you complete HARD MODE again, this time with Cheryl, you will get a new Ally for your team! Cheryl will now lead around a white Blak Kat with blue eyes, her version of Amigo the Husky! This is especially useful versus tough enemies such as mountain wolves.

Well, this isn't as good as I was hoping, but at least it worked out. Don't forget: (Especially you, bizpimp) This is not the full version of The Surreal 2! Heck, this isn't very close to it at all. Sorry I couldn't post the complete version.

You've done it again!

This sequel is beyond amazing. I can't believe it isn't even the full version! Once again, I felt as if I were actually there with Joshua on his journey through this undescribible Dream Realm. I love how you included Joshua's demonic form (I sure the DMC fans will love that...). However, I did find some certain things that should, in my opinion, be changed. I will e-mail them to you A.S.A.P. Thanks again for writing such an awesome game, I love reading them. I'm sure you're already gathering ideas for # 3....

First of all, I hope I don't upset anyone for writing a comment with no "constructional criticism." This idea could not and may not be posted for quite some time, due to lack of space. If anyone wants to read it, do so now, cause it's only going to be here for a limited amount of time. I have changed the name from "The Surreal 2: Sanity's Requiem", to "The Surreal 2: Insanity". This is the COMPLETE VERSION.

I don't want to hear ANYBODY complaining that this sequel is a rip off of Devil May Cry. It was inspired in places, but the reason for this is because rather than compare The Surreal series to frigging BORING games like Silent Hill, I want to aim it towards action games like DMC.

You know Vee, the reason I changed the title because I recently found out that there is a game for Gamecube called "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem". I have no gamecube, and have never heard of this game. THERE ARE GAME DEVELOPERS SPYING ON ME I TELL YOU! Hehe...I'm gonna stick with Insanity this time.
