Learn Game Programming
DeVry's Game and Simulation Programming curriculum will prepare you for taking on various development roles in the game industry.
Game Art & Design Degree
Westwoods’s game art & design program will teach you everything you will need to know before you apply for a job in the game industry.
This would be a very complicated game, not so much to play, but to make. The reason is that it would incorporate elements from 3rd person shooters, RTS's, TBS’s (turn based strategies) and RPG's. Anyways, it would be set in Western Europe in 1090, 1130, or 1340, whichever you select, in the province of Flanders which at that time belonged to the English. You begin as an 18 year old peasant named Timothy who has been training with a sword since he first found one on the outskirts of a battle when he was 11. It has been 6 days since his birthday and his village is being raided by bandits, 6 axmen, 3 swordsmen, and 2 archers. Hearing the commotion outside his hut he runs outside with his sword in hand. AS he does that, the archers fire flaming arrows at his hut with his mother still inside. In no time at all, the hut burns down to the ground. Filled with rage, he blindly charges at the bandits. Due to the recent levy for soldiers, there are only three other able-bodied men at the village. After Killing 2 axmen and injuring a third, one of the swordsmen knocks him upside the head with the blunt edge of his sword knocking him out. He regains consciousness to see the 3 other men get brutally slaughtered. This fight would be sort of like a tutorial, introducing the player to certain elements of the game. After this, a cinematic would occur where you see Timothy(the player) being carried off through a forest after much indecision of whether or not he should be executed. After deciding to let him live they take him to a small village where apparently the bandits had taken residence. Seeing that he is fairly strong, they decide to put him to work for them as a slave, gathering food from a farm they had planted as well as doing anything else they would ask of him. In white letters on a black background it would say:"5 years later". After this, a cutscene would appear where you see a group of knights passing by village and questioning the bandits. From a hill slightly south of th knights, an archer rises up and fires an arrow at one of the knights knocking him off of his horse. A battle then ensues and in the midst of the battle, Timothy escapes into a large forest. After making it through the forest he reaches a village where he spends the night in the stables. The following day, a court jester walks out into the courtyard and delivers a proclamation that they are drafting all able-bodied men into military service for the king, Timothy decides that this may be his only chance to survive and decides to do so. The features would include being able to travel throughout Western, Eastern, and Southern Europe. In order to travel, you need to do any one of several things. Own a horse, join a caravan, or be part of a military expedition. When you own a horse, you can travel wherever you wish as long as they would accept you there, however, horses are expensive, and in order to use one, you must feed it so it does not die of starvation. When traveling by horseback, you have to open up a map from a menu in order to travel to different provinces, and select which to travel to. In order to leave the province you are in, you must ride to a border fort manually, however once you reach a border fort, you automatically travel to whichever province you choose. In order to travel to different villages within a single province, you only need to look at the map to gain an approximation of where it is. When you travel by caravan, you have to pay a certain amount of gold to get onto the caravan which can be found either along paths between villages, or within villages. The upside to travelling by caravan is that it is less dangerous than travelling by hordeback, as you are less likely to get attacked and are better defended if you do. The downside is that you do not control the caravan and must wait for it to reach somewhere close to your destination. The third option to travel by military expedition is the safest way to travel, however, it has one objective and that is the sanctioned objective either by a monarch or the church, and the only other option is to attempt to desert the expedition. If you choose to do this and are caught, they will attempt to kill you and you have to fight them off to survive. Another feature is that you could pledge allegiance to factions such as the English, the French, The Russians, or, even join the 1st Crusade in which you could either eliminate the Muslims, or turn your back on the crusade and assist the Muslims changing history. By pledging allegiance to a faction, you gain a little bit of land from the lord that you pledged allegiance to. When you pledge allegiance to another faction, you still own land within other provinces belonging to other factions and can still go back to that land and govern them. This would allow for multiple endings and open-ended game play. There would be different times of the day such as Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Late Afternoon, and Night. After the night time of day, u would have to have a rest period which would be about 2 weeks to about a month. However, this rest period would not be forced upon the player, although in order to continue past the night time of day, they must rest, The reason for this is that there has to be more than a year at least pass, but still leave the player interested. When you join a faction, you have many new options open to you, you could stay at the current rank your at, or attempt to get to higher rank such as king giving even more endings. These ranks would include rising from the lowly foot soldier, to a militiaman, to a chivalrous knight, or even to royalty. While working for a faction, whether it be a lord, a vassal, you are given land in exchange for military service; so the more missions you undertake, the higher your rank is, and the more land you recieve. By being able to own land, you also have to support yourself with food and a form of currency such as gold. This is the RPG aspect with resource gathering. As you rise in rank, more and more people come to work for you, the more people that work for you, the more food and gold you have, the more food you have, the more people you can support on your land, the more gold you have, the more items such as weapons you can buy. Theoretically, you can have a fort buiilt around your land if you have enough money. With all this, there would a leveling up system for each weapon separately depending on how you train with each one. This will include a multitude of different weapons such as Spears, Pikes, Halberds (7 ft long), Swords, Broadswords, Maces, Shorts words, Long swords, Helmets and other armor, Short bows, Longbows, Crossbows, Artillery, Trebuchets and many others each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You could also gain a following and get people to help you in accomplishing missions that you receive from your faction. During the battles that would occur, you may end up having the option of knocking out an enemy by striking with the blunt edge of a weapon, in this case, instead of killing the enemy, you would be able to sell them into slavery, recruit them to help you with missions, or put them to work for you to help gather money or grow food. Some of these missions would include castle siege, assassinations, and even open warfare. All of this would end either when you die of old age, at like 70 or higher so it would be unlikely, decide to simply stay at your position through a button on the options menu during game play, become king of a faction, wipe out all of your rivals and also some secret ones that will include side quests that have nothing to do with your faction. The entire game would be historically accurate so if you're good at history, you might know what to expect and how to deal with it.
