First person shooters in my opinion are getting to linear....We've seen so many fpss in the last few years that we can hardly keep counting. So what did we see? Since the release of doom what changes have there been on this field? In my opinion only graphics and some non-prior functions have benefited, well of course with the exception of sound, but that's rhetorical. Only a couple of games (half life counterstrike rules) have a function of weapon disposition when fired.....DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH AN AK47 hits back on you when you fire it....damn. So I guess something should be done. Well I must admit I'm a bit of a realism freak so don't listen to me too much, but hey why exactly do you play games.....because you want to be free.....you want to able to do things you can't really do in real life. So what should we expect? I think a modern high end first person shooter should include weapon feedback, ability to move more realistically, bullets should penetrate through walls.....and bounce of some surfaces (it wouldn't kill you, if this bullet hit you, but would do some damage)....and please do something about the view.....we've seen fps only in one view when in real life you actually see your nose, and your body if you look down....I would also like to see a war sim (fps style) where a bullet would kill you (or maybe 2)....because I hate it when u have to fire 300 rounds of submachine gun ammo into someone and I've read somewhere (a couple of months back) that Soldier of fortune isn't a kind of game you would play half a year from now (now is then)......so that time has came....but I think I want to play it as much as half a year ago, because it is the only game with a gore and damage level I desire .....hands flying....etc....and weapons are very cool..... So if I make a conclusion.....I would like to say that Soldier of fortune, and swat 3 with some additions and more interactivity with the hostages and other non threatening subjects in the game could produce an incredible title where people like us might actually get a grip on how things really are in let's say swat team......remember...A BULLET KILLS!!

I love that, I came up with a similar thing, I'll post It. I do Think that we should use Geo mod on character models too, so cloths can be torn, hands, legs getting blasted off. Oh, and a Springfield firing .30/06 has WAY more kick than an AK-47, although, it still has some kick, he he he.

Phylos-X
In the game I'm designing, Phylos-X, there is tons of realism. Guns kick, enemies react to body shots more realistically, you leave footprints and shadows, etc. Bullets can go through walls, and they do less damage depending on what kind of ammo you use. You can even shoot out eyes to make people go blind. Think about it.

Yes realistic weapons are good, also the view point through the eyes instead of the top of the gun is also a cool idea.

I'm not so sure about your perspective on First person views. I do like your concept on looking down and seeing your feet, but wouldn't a nose in the middle of the screen get in the way a little? I mean, think about it, how often do we actually pay attention to OUR nose?- it is rather invisible when focusing on a certain object...oh, and you've made an excellent point on gun kicks (it should do damage to the character's shoulder- to some degree). I hope to see more of these details in future FPS's. Good thinkin'.
