Tom Clancy games usually rock but damn!!

If there is one awesome thing about E3 it is that there is always one or two games that kind of come from nowhere and completely floor you! This year that game was definitely Splinter Cell, with everyone looking for a hint of MGS 3 Ubi Soft decided to pull out the secret weapon and even make Hideo Kojima green with envy. A short demo showed a stealthy individual climbing, scaling, and hugging the walls like a certain "solid" individual but with so much more precision and detail it couldn't help but get noticed. Now that everyone knows what Splinter Cell is it's time to dig a little deeper in anticipation of this November release!

The game revolves around a top agent named Sam Fisher. Sam is a member of a secretive black ops NSA sub agency called Third Echelon. He is specially trained to infiltrate, seize intelligence, neutralize the enemy - all without a trace. His job is to protect your freedom and he takes his job very seriously. Using all of the technology at his disposal including an array of gadgets ranging from night vision to his multi-purpose rifle. This guy has all the goods of James Bond with the style of Solid Snake, a regular hero to say the least.

From the screenshots and in-game action we have seen so far Splinter Cell appears to take full advantage of what the XBox can do graphically. From light sourcing that the PS2 can only dream about to texture mapping beyond your wildest imagination, this game is freakin' gorgeous! The environments seem alive and the characters move so realistically it sometimes scares me, I feel as if I really killed a terrorist and that gets the blood flowing!

There are many ways Sam can perform his tasks, he has the ability to peak around corners, through keyholes, cracks in doors and windows as well as using night vision and heat vision to scope out enemies in hard to see areas. He also has the ability to destroy light sources in order to better conceal himself, this leads to some adrenaline rushing game play. Imagine yourself straddled above a hallway with a terrorist walking below you looking for you, the hallway is pitch black and you can hear his footsteps below you. You throw on the night vision, zoom in on the enemy and with one quick trigger tug his brains are scattered on the wall behind him. Intense isn't it?

With Splinter Cell launching in November and a PS2 version following sometime next year this game has all the buzz that a game can possibly get. Being crowned the MGS killer before it's even released is a bold statement but from the footage we have seen and played this game has a strong chance of de-throning the "solid" one.
